Protoform Lightweight Body shell
hi,
Does anyone know the difference between the normal protoform mazda 6 shells and the new lightweight ones? Does it make a difference? Thanks.

The difference is the weight due to the reduced thinkness of the lexan. The lightweight is faster but a lot less durable. There is somewhat of a backlash against the lightweight bodies. As soon as the fastest guys use them everyone else has to in order to keep up. A lot of the big races are making them illegal. Parma and Protoform were supposedly talking about agreeing not to make them but apparently that hasnt or isnt happening.

Not only are they less durable, the flex more at speed. I've seen the sides of bodies tuck up into the chassis at full speed down a straight. The fix is people putting lexan baraces to keep the sides stiffer. There goes the weight advantage. Plus, one good hit and the body is done.

I find the lwt bodies to be more durable myself. Especially at the front wheel area.
