Default My F1 questions - converting f104w to f104x1/pro

Hey guys! I have been running into some issues and just so I dont burn out the guys at my track with questions, I figured I would just put them up here and have you guys help me. So lets get to the questions.

1. I am converting an f104w to an x1/pro version. I placed f104pro tamiya wheels on the rear of the car and the offset is completely wrong. Will the f104pro wheel adapter and diff set fix this or do I need to use the f104w rims?

2. I am planning on placing my servo horizontally in the front of the car and I saw somewhere a servo saver that actually lowered the ball studs off the saver in order to keep the steering linkage level. Anybody know where to find one of those? I have searched and searched and searched.

We will start there. Thank you!

Kyle

X1 and Pro are both 190mm cars... the W is 200mm.

You'd need to change the whole front end to that of the X1/Pro to narrow it down to 190mm

yup! That is taken care of. I put the pro front on my car so that is fine. I need to get the rear lined up now. I have the w with pro wheels. Do I need to replace the whole rear end or can I just get the pro axle and wheel adapters?

F104W and F104 (x1 or pro) are same rear motor mount, axle, diff and all. You just need to put the F104 wheels on the back and it will be the proper 180mm wide rear.

Well crap, than my car is assembled wrong cause it is definitely not centered on the rear. The diff side wheel sticks out a noticeable amount more than the other side.

Bring it by the HobbyPLEX tonight and compare it with my car. Then you can see what needs to be changed. Mine is an F104 Pro that I converted to the X1.

actually that is a really good idea. I might swing by the plex tonight. Thanks! And here are some pics of the rear of my car. The diff side wheel is sticking out quite a bit more.

It looks like the wheel isn't seated all the way on the diff housing (the black plastic part). It's hard to tell from the lighting. Is the bearing or one of the washers hanging up on the diff joint, keeping the wheel from mounting properly?

actually it kind of surprised me but there arent any bearings in the diff and that wheel. It's all bushings except for the bearings in the ride height adjusters. And the wheel is seated all the way down on the plastic. The only area that could be off would be in the diff somewhere. That's another thing, the diff isnt tight when the wheel is tightened all the way down. That diff side wheel is still lose when the nut is all the way down

I figured it out! After doing a little more research and a little more looking around, my car is actually an f103 and so I need to mount the thrust bearing and the shims on the outside of the f104 wheel and it will fit just fine. Thank you everybody for your help! Looks like I better get to converting!

Dont forget your additional two bearings that go inside of that diff half. Then you can stack then mount the wheel. The stack the rest of the stuff in this order. Thrust bearing, cone washers this way )( , the spacer and then finanly the nut.
