I'm new to Tamiya asked about a TB04 and that car has a gear issue you can't get enough gear for brushless motors. I have 3 races on my TB03 it is a great handling car. As I wrote above I have a 417v5 I race in 17.5 class. TB03 handles very similar. I race against 417 and other more modern cars and my TB is very competitive against those cars. If you can replace Phillips screws with hex's it makes my car much easier to work on.

TB03 parts should be around for quite awhile. There's a significant amount of TB03 content in the TB04.

Most of the parts that you would break ie c hubs, spindle carriers, A arms, cv axles are the same ones used in the 417. That is one of the things I like about the car I only have to carry parts for 2 different cars my 417 and TB03. I am going to build a TCS legal TB03 soon I like the way this car runs. Im replacing all the suspension parts with 417 parts. I put some 417 DCJ in the front and a 3 racing spool. My next up grade is a gear diff. Companies are making upgrades for this car still.

Is the tb03 cometetive in 21.5 against tb04 and ta06? Or what would you use in this class.

I think it would be better that those two.

Call me partial, I think I have four TB-03s. I have a TB04 also, but it doesn't have potential for a high enough gear ratio for 21.5.

Craig MBA is the man when it comes to TB03 I respect what he has to say when it comes to TB03 and 4's. We race 21.5 here in GT and I run a TB03 and I am usually .3 faster then the TB04 the guy's that are the TB04 are very capable drivers.

+1 TB-03 is much faster overall. A few things I do admire on the TB-04 are the flat battery tray, steering rack and finer shock position adjustment.

you all who are saying the TB03 is faster then the TB04pro is that because the gearing/FDR restrictions ? what else makes the 03 faster if geared the same ?

You can't physically fit enough pinion into a TB04 to get the ratio much higher than 3.4 FDR. On carpet, I ran a FDR of about 3.2 in my TB03 in 21.5. Lowering one tooth made the lap times 0.2 slower, so I can't imagine what a dog the 04 is going to be.

If you plan on running 17.5, it's not an issue because it doesn't need as high an FDR as 21.5.

You forgot split suspension blocks for more chassis flex.

I'm going to attempt to go test my TB04/TB03 "twins" (I have this thing for building identical cars) next week so hopefully I'll have something to say, but I'd be surprised to have a ton of difference considering how similar the drivetrain and suspension. But you never know till you try it.

No, I've driven the car in 17.5 and seen it in 13.5. There seemed to be a disadvantage to running the TB-04 in any class...

So you would take the tb03 over the ta06 as well for 21.5 with fdr 4.0?
