both cars are actually quite similar in terms of parts, TB03 parts are used widely across many of Tamiya's product line including the TRF series.

I guess with TCS you have to use tamiya supported pitch gears. In tourers, I've changed to 48 pitch gears, in order to get a final gear ratio that is below 4:1; and this is with TA05 V2 (internal gear ratio of 2.055). TB03 can also do that, but with an internal gear ratio of 2.48:1, it's a lot harder to get below 4:1 final ratio without exploding your motor.

At the TCS Finals, we can use any spur/pinion gear combination we wish and I believe the top runners were running 64 pitch gears in their TB03s, geared in the low to mid 3's with 17.5T motors. I was geared at 3.894 with a 13.5T lol.

The thing with shaft cars is that throttle feels very direct and could have more acceleration off corners. That, along with a drivetrain that is very free, will allow you to carry even more gearing.

But what do I know, I don't even have a TB03R

The X-rays and Yokomo I run with goes all the way down to 2.8 - 3.2, we are running club spec, 0 timing esc + 21.5T brushless but you can adjust motor timing. My motor was running at 65 - 70'C at 3.87 ATM. Am going to go down to around 3.01:1, will see what happens to the motor... BTW, this is with the TA05. I will do the same with the TB03 and see if I can achieve the same kind of speed. And yes, I do agree, shaft drive cars give better throttle output, a lot more torque compared to belt cars, just need to get the setup right.... which is something I am not quite prepared to do due to the high internal gear ratio. But if you think it's possible. I'll more than happy to give it a go. Personally, I do think TB03 is a better balanced car, just need to keep up with those Yokomos, ATM, it's like running my own race. I just don't have the speed to keep up with them on the straights. It's like a Mclaren vs Caterham. Same formula but the gap between the two are just really big.

BTW, I won't drive anything but tamiya. I've got a TC6, Sakura zero, all unbuilt. I even bought a BD5 and a Xray2010 and end up sold them at a lost....

the frames will tell you which body it is for. ABC hobby has the best selections, they actually do it for their bodies though. The next option is get yokomo car shells, they have light bucket included as well.

Most of new tamiya bodies comes with light buckets as well. My Artaiya comes with front light buckets. for the rear, I've decided to just rim out a couple of holes and put the LED half way thru and fix the LED with a glue gun.

i'm guessing that the Impul Calsonic has these buckets as well. they have inserts you put the stickers on that attach in behind the lens. i can try to work it.

Yes, they comes with 2 options. Option one, colour everything thru and just use sticker.

Option 2, mask (as provided) then cut out the light buckets that comes with the car. The would be the best fit.

I might be doing the attaching of LED wrong, but it's effective neverthe less. What I do is use a rimmer and open a hole at the desired location. Put the LED in, the stuck it with a glue gun.

Any TB03 folks change their hubs and hub carrier to the TRF416 carbon reinforced ones? I find the TB03 ones have a little too much slop, not sure if it got worse over time though.

Thanks!

Talking plastic vs reinfored!

They get very sloppy over time. I like the reinfored hubs and the plastic hub carriers. The threads on the reinforced hubs last longer and the reinforced carriers can break if your not a perfect driver like me.
The plastic carriers are more forgiving if you hit a dot, they bend but not break.
Just my 2$
