TC5 Shocks
Does anyone know the trick to get TC5 shocks to hold their oil? I built them according to the manual and they seemed fine last summer, but last fall all 4 shocks just decided that they didn't want to hold oil anymore. I wasn't even driving the car, it was sitting on the shelf when I discovered 4 puddles of oil under the car. Any help would be appreciated. Until I figure it out I will just keep using my Tamiya shocks

All four of my TC5 shocks havn't lost any oil since I built the kit in December. That includes racing the car and a few drives up and down the street.

I was having the same problem with two of my four shocks. I coated all the internal 'guts' with the FT Green Slime and then made sure I used the shock tool to push all the parts firmly into the shock body. Once everything was properly seated and coated I haven't had an issue yet.
Hope that helps, good luck. |
Do you clean your shocks off by spraying motor or brake cleaner on them? If so, this can cause some o-rings to swell, thus allowing oil to seep. Replace the o-rings with new ones and see how they do. |
