SWTour's **ALLSTAR SHOOTOUT**

NOTE: The SWTour (aka South-West Tour) series is a 1/10th scale OVAL racing series

What: 2008 **ALLSTAR SHOOTOUT**
When: May 18th, 2008 (Part of the SWTour's Series, with a points race on May 17th)
Who: 1/10th Scale Electric Oval Racers
Where: The ENCINO VELODROME, Encino California

At the FIRST SWTour **ALLSTAR SHOOTOUT** last year there was a lot of pre-race anticipation.

This NEW event with a huge cash and prize payout, and it's unique race format was building an excitement level the West Coast oval racers hadn't seen for years.

Coming into the race weekend, the favorites were two of R/C Racings veterans GARY HAMILTON and ERIK STEENHOVEN both of whom were locked into last years event, Steenhoven because he was a "PAST CHAMPION" and Hamilton by virtue of a main event win earlier in the season.

Last years race not only 'pre-qualified' drivers by virtue of being a past champion, but "A" Main winners from ALL classes also earned they way in.

The 2 day event at the Encino Velodrome is a POINTS race on Saturday, and the **SHOOTOUT** on Sunday, so the winners of SATURDAYS series event would also earn their way into the "BIG" show. Such was the case for ERIC BRUST.

Brust would pull off the win in Saturdays 10.5 main giving him a 'pre-qualified' position in the shootout on Sunday, but not only that...Brust would also earn the POLL in the 4 lap qualifying session which also earned him a $50.00 bonus.

Steenhoven, one of the events 'favorites' would take the win in the shootout's FIRST segment, but he got shoved out of the groove in main #2, and it would be ERIC BRUST who would grab the victory in the West Coast's RICHEST R/C Oval event of 07.

This years ALLSTAR SHOOTOUT format is a little different, no MAIN event winner will have a 'pre-qualified' position, this year that will only be reserved for "Past series Champions" This means to get IN if you are not a past champion you will have to finish high enough in the 'LAST CHANCE' qualifier, which will have upto 20* cars. (NOTE: If more than 20 entrants who are NOT pre-qualified register, TWO LCQ's will be run taking an even number of finishers from each to fill the 20 car SHOOTOUT grid)

Other changes to this years event... The PREMIERE class for the shootout will be using NOVAK 17.5 brushless motors and ORION 3200 LIPO Batteries

Here are the 3 fastest 17.5 runs I have record of...

30/5:03.40 Brett Patti
30/5:03.63 Arnold Brittain
30/5:03.72 Larry Ruby

So this years shootout will be a LAP race (Not timed) with the first segment running 30 laps, but the 2nd segment will go 35, adding close to an extra FULL minute of racing...just to make guys put their THINKING cap on.

This event is now less than 2 weeks away - and this is NOT a 'big turnout' event, it's an event FOR the supporters of the SWTour Series - and gives them a "BIG PRIZE" to race for.

SPECIAL THANKS to the R/C MFG's who have shown great support and provided the CASH and PRIZES for this event.
