Would be cool if hotwire would show an acceleration curve showing the various timing at different points. It sounds like its confusing with motor timing, timing boost, turbo timing, delay, etc. Not sure how that would work but thinking "out loud".

I am new to TC racing and I would appreciate any help setting up my RS for a 17.5 Tekin Motor. I raced for the first time in a rookie stock sedan class and I noticed two things that did not feel right:

1.) braking seemed much weaker than other ESCs I have used just bashing around. Not bad, just not STRONG like my old Keyence (brushed with 19T). I really only needed to use them hard coming off the straight into the second turn (tight).

2.) Acceleration or "punch" off the corners was not there. Seemed really soft to me. This is my first brushless so is that normal for a brushless compared to a brushed motor? Top speed was there though, never got passed on the straight - in fact I made a pass. I think I felt that boost come on....

For racing context (if this even helps), track was 120'x ~45'. Prepped parking lot. Air temp 100, track temp 150. Motor was 161 at 5 min. I started 5th, ended 4th of 9 cars, soooooo it was not bad, just did not feel right.

Here is my setup for the speedo:

RS (not Pro) v198 code, sensored only

Drag Brake: Off
Rev Strength: 100 (should I set this to 0? Could it affect performance?)
Brake Strength: 100
Neutral Width: 56 (Is this too much? I don’t think I touched this setting)
Motor Type: BL-FW
Throt Profile: 3
Volt Cutoff: 6.220
Push Cntl: off
Boost: 25
Curr Limitff

Car: XXXS-G+, 17.5 Tekin motor (box stock timing), 90/35 gearing or 4.71 FDR. (is this too tall? too short?)
Batt: TP 40C
Radio: Airtronics MX-3 AM

Any opinions, thoughts, or advice would be most appreciated!!!

You are running almost the exact same setup as me, even FDR. Even though your car is coming off at 161 degrees (i woudlnt want to go that much hotter), people here will tell you that you are WAY under-geared. I am in the same boat as you... trying to figure out how to get more power out of my esc, but like you, I am already up pretty high in temps.

If you have motor timing at stock (12 degrees) and boost at 25 you are overtimed and it will be weak down low. Drop the motor to 0 on your smaller track and put boost at 30 to start and let us know how it goes.

4.7:1 in 17.5 with 120' straight. sounds very short to me. heat the motor up short that is. go to 4.2 and have a dig. and ur neutral width is a big issue. look up randy's setups in here thru course of thread and see how far off ur NW is

made a bid diff in how car responded to the trigger finger. i think u'll find that u were as soft as u thought u work, but between spinnin tires at that short a FDR and having to pull so much trigger to get a response, i think u'll find a marked change simply by addressin NW, but yes i think most will tell you ur way short and thus heatin the motor up

I'll gear up. Tough to find pinions that big (38T) at my local stores, so I'll have to air out the credit card and go online.

I was questioning that neutral width and what it meant. I get it now and I'll address that as well.

Thanks guys! I'll report back the effect of the various changes....

Tekin, please make a voltage booster that doesn't take up the entire chassis.

Hi Scalippo,

I am Italian too, but i am currently living in Singapore.

PM me your e-mail address so we can discuss about Tekin in Italian would you have any problem explaining your self in English.

Comunque se guardi pagine indietro ci dovrebbe essere la schermata di Randy Pike, suggeriscono 2 cap e una ventola che soffia direttamente sulla saldatura che e' anche il dissipatore di calore per il tekin.

Ciao e a presto.

Anyone using a DX3.0 with the RS esc with 17.5 and 10.5? If so how what are your brakes like and did you make any drastic changes to the TX or ESC to achieve decent brakes?

Cheers
Adrian
