Hey! I'm making a R/C boat for an engineering project. In the rules you aren't allowed to use a radio. Therefore, my question is this: Is there anyway to turn your motor on and off by a switch while it's connected to a battery and speed control?

If you aren't required to use any form of speed control, you could simply use a switch between the motor and battery. WOT!

Not an R/C Boat if there is no radio!!!

Sounds like a timer circuit would be the easiest way. Should find a simple timer switch in an electronics project book or try google search.

I assume you are going to UCF. I had to do this project 3 years ago, But we were able to use radio equipment, my boat was fast as Sh*t but the Speedo got wet and started to short out and over heat. if you have any questions or need any help feel free to let me know.

yes this is for the UCF project haha. My friends and I are building a sub actually. We plan on just letting it sink part way into the water, and just go directly across, so we don't have to worry about turning or programming to turn it anyways.

my suggestion for that is make sure the you have enough ballast in it so that it will sick almost to the bottom of the pond because in past years they have put a net across the middle of the pond. also you may want to put a little bit of an angle to the motor so that it will turn to the left a bit.

If you haven't already found these two r/c sub sites, they're chock full of resources from real life trials and tribulations .... www.subcommittee.com and www.subpirates.com. Just don't mention each site on the other site, might as well be a cold war going on between the two of them.

Anyway, your project sounds like fun!
