Used Xrays- price vs performance
Used Xrays- price vs performance
I see the newest X-Ray Model T2 2008 –for around $450-$500 new
I guess because of their popularity and the fact that they release a new model every year, there are a lot of used X-rays for sale
I see the following commonly for sale used, [prices vary depending on upgrades or parts included]
T2 007- $180-250
T2 $150-200
T1 FK005- $125-$175
Can someone briefly summarize the major differences between these models and the pros and cons of each for a club racer (using lipo and brushless)with average or below average driving skills.

FK05 - prolly Xrays best car to date. Built like a tank, plenty of space for lipos (higher upper desck), and very capable of winning at the club / regional level. The big downside to the FK05 is working on it is a PIA.
T2 - a good asphalt car, not so good on carpet. A lot easier to work on than the FK05. This was the first big change for Xray, and reviews are mixed about it, some liked it, some did not. Still a very capable car, lipos might be a tighter fit than FK05.
T2 007 - was the best car out there, until Xray found 50 ways to impove it in 08 Xray fixed the issues of the car being good on carpet by offering 2 kits, US & EU. This car is more than capable of winning at any level. Lipo is a little had to fit, depending on the size.
All of the cas are good cars, especially for clubs racing. Parts are still available for the FK05, and T2 parts are very common at most tracks.
If your just getting into racing, you cant beat a used Xray. Save the extra cash for tires & pactice time.

I have a T2 and a T2'007, both brand new, assembled, but never run. I can make you a smoking deal if you're interested.
PM me if you are, and I can send pics.

On the flip side you are going to spend big $ on a xray that needs a good rebuild, chubs and steering knuckles are $6 each vs $6 for all 4 from other brands, dogbones are like $20 a pop and regardless of the "spring steel" they do bend, you may, but most likely won't need outdrives. Every little part for those cars like the pivots inside the ballcups are $6-10, the roll center adjusters, etc.

I have only owned the 007 and the 008.
Both are fantastic cars. The only advantage I can see with the 008 over the 007 is in my opinion the car is super easy to get along with.
By that I mean. The base build (set-up) is super easy to drive and when you do try some set-up changes the car reacts very well with no drastic changes that I have seen. It seems that everything I have try has always been a positive.
The 007 seemed just a touch sensitive to changes for me. But is still a killer car. And you should jump on one if you find one in good shape.
Heads up though. Just because someone says its only been ran one time and then shows a pic of a nice lookin chassis does'nt mean its true. I have seen many carpet cars that had been totaly whored out on carpet tracks that still looked new on the bottm of the chassis. Look for things like bent bulkheads, bent axles, and cracked shock towers. At the price of XRAY parts, you don't want to buy very many for a used car if you dont have to.

The parts thing is a worry
If parts are that expensive then it makes sence to look more closely at those sales in which they have tons of spare parts along with the car itself.

FK04 is in my opinion the best car xray has made yet. Having said that I have not tryied the 008 yet.
Its fair better then the T1-05 and the 007.

I had a 3 fk04 and 2 t2.
They were ok UNTIL I got my LOSI Type R
Why changing.......Part are 2X expensive then Losi or TC5.
You should look at this also.

The price of cars goes up like the price of gas. Can never go wrong with a tc3/4. Cars and parts are very cheap.

Used Xrays
I can chime in on the buying a used Xray, I traded a new AX-10 roller setup for a "near new, perfect condition T2", pictures looked great of course. Stripped screws, locked up diffs, missing parts, worn belts etc. But after a lot of $$ it is a top notch ride with CC BL Sidewinder and 4600 in it. I get comments all the time at the track on what is it and why is it so quiet. And she looks sweet also. Bottom line, I love it!!

I use teflon powder on my belt/gears in my T2. The face of gears are ment to slip so I give it a little help.
Its quiet with the brushless. Also, I use 64p kimbrough gears. Tried a few other brands and the holes don't line up.
When I went from a TC3 to a Xray T2 I jumped 2 laps. The car just had that much more speed out of the corner. I assume the '007 and '008 are better but better cars are for better drivers.
