No break in.

Yeah, it's called practice. The break-in isn't for the motor, it's for the driver to learn how to handle the power. No more smooth laps at the end of the run as the motor slows down.

You can improve a BL motor though. Shimming to center the rotor in the stator, cleaning out and using a light oil on bearings, ceramic high-ABEC bearings etc....can coax more power out of a BL motor.

beat me to it...adrian is right.

it is not in how powerful the motor is, but how much of that power is getting to the wheels.

First upgrade I made to my motors were ceramic bearings.

I usually don't free up my bearings till the first cleaning. I guess I like setting the ball/races when there is grease to carry off any fillings that may break off. Just like diffs, those little balls make a tiny little groove and I feel that is when the most wear occurs is when the balls are setting.

What ABEC number? 3,5,7?

snoopyrc 03-29-2008 04:53 AM

I would buy as high of an ABEC rating as I could find/afford.

Alltapdout 03-29-2008 07:14 AM

Do ceramic bearings even have a ABEC rating?

jeffb 03-29-2008 08:43 AM

Ceramic bearings range from ABEC1 to ABEC9. Of course I would never purchase ABEC 9 full ceramic bearings.
