Hi guys, just want to ask your opinion about TA05.
I want to buy TA05 but, I dont know what essential parts should I get (hop-ups), to make my car race ready, stable and durable.

Your best bet would be a pair of universal driveshafts to replace the dogbones on the front, trf shocks and alloy toe blocks as the stock plastic ones are OK, but may break on a heavy shunt. 3 degrees rear toe in is useful on carpet as opposed to the stock 2degree parts the car comes with. Different springs to get the car handling well. A spool up front will be useful too if you can get used to the improved power on steering.

Then, in time focus on getting the weight down, by getting either a Tamiya graphite chassis, or the 3racing version. Ballracing the steering is not essential, but is a consideration too.

There is a big ta05 discussion thread too on this forum to have a look through for other ideas too. Enjoy the car, it has plenty of potential at club level! A very good,durable car for the money with a few upgrades

Thanks for the info. the only regret theat i have is our local hobby here dont have TA05R.

By the way, can TA05 can handle brushless motors?

yes it can! i run a 5800 with lipo and it handles the power just fine. infact..awhile ago i saw someone running a 4.5r novak BL motor in their ta05

Im having a second thought of buying TA05R than TA05.
Can someone advice me which is worth to buy between the two.
Price matter TA05 is ok.
But the blue parts of TA05R are good to see, The questio is, are they essential?

good question, i was wondering that myself. but, at the price, you still get all the essential upgrades (except carbon chassis) for less.

If you can find a Ta05R there great. very easy to drive. the hopup that Tamiya inlcude are worth more than the cost diff. between a reg. Ta05 and the R-versions.

I pick up a Ta05 R for the wife last summer. I could not beleive how well and easy this car drives. I run a 415mre. for us it was a no brainer we can share some similar part. like arms. I was actully almost pulling lower lap times with the wife car.

I've also readt that a factory team driver for Tamiya was testing a Ta05r and was spanking guys at his club in mod. the car has so much potential it crazy.

I started wtih a TA05 two years ago and slowly added all the R parts including the lightweight suspension. Obviously, I spent a lot more doing it that way and it worked out for me. As I got faster, I made the car better.

I actually prefer the regular TA05 oversized suspension arms and hubs and bearings over the lightweight versions that come with the TA05R for performance and reliability.

I ran the dog bones for a while, but noticed a big difference once I added CVDs front AND rear. I think they are the only thing you must upgrade out of the box. Unfortunately, that will cost you roughly $40-50 + cost of the kit $160 and you are over $200.

So for $200+, you might as well go for the TA05R version. The TRF shocks, CVDs, aluminum turnbucks and aluminium spension blocks are worth every extra dollar the TA05R costs and then some.

with 4.5 BL maybe you should run with alum outdrive....minimum wear...

what is "alum outdrive"? is it part of TA05R?
i mean is it hop-ups

The outdrive is the outer part of the differential, that the driveshaft goes into Any of the harder wearing metal versions can be referred to as a "hot-up" (upgrade) as it is improving the durability of the transmission.

oh yeah i was going to ask a question.

how well does the box stock chassis (plastic tub) hold the newer generation of cells? i've got some 4500 grepows, and they require some forcing into my E10, which is a brand new chassis, but the TA05 is a couple of years old at least.
