Someone needs to start making bigger pinions!
If 17.5 turn is going to be the norm soon for stock, the pinion manufacturers in my opinion should start making much larger pinion gears than whats currecnty available in both 48pitch and 64pitch.
As on large out door tracks im sure the recomended novak gearing of 3.5FDR will not be enough to stay competitive, i think we all know that.
Cars like Xray T2 with really low internal ratio will be fine but what about others that have other brands with relitivly high internal ratios,
Even if i change my cyclone to the 18t centre pulleys and get the biggest pinion and smallest spur i can find, its still not the lowest im sure i will have to go, and even then the motor mount cant slide the motor any closer anyway to reach the tiny spur)

PRS makes some 55t gears, and Xenon goes up to 52t.
That puts me at 3.6 assuming I can even fit them in the car with the smallest available corally spur gear of 98. Scary.

What's the smallest spur you can find? I don't think there would be a problem as long as you can get a small enough spur. Some pinions that are too large may not fit under some top decks as with the 416. So the only way for me to gear right is with a smaller spur. A 78 spur will do me just fine with tons of pinions I can use to get down into the 2's for a final drive... haha.... 2's... haha.. damn.

yeah true different cars will require different spurs or pinions.
but i have a 42tooth 48 pitch pinion
and i have a 63 tooth 48 pitch spur
now with a internal drive on my cyclone of 2.1666 (with 18t pulleys)
that gives me around 3.2FDR
but i would like to be able to achieve 3.0fdr or even 2's if i have to with out bying a new car .
now with these combos i have stated my motor just barely can come close enough to mesh with the spur, so in my case bigger pinions would be better, and then maybe i could run a 66t or 67 t spur and be able to achieve a nice range of FDR's for 17.5t on a wide variety of tracks
so yeah larger pinions and also spurs should go smaller as well.

Don't they make a brushless motor/bulkhead for the Cyclone?

Sweet i had a look and yes i can get into the fdr's of 2's if i use that brand and go to 64pitch,
providing they pysical will mesh together with out needing to dremel my motor mount
now all i need is someone who has used 64pitch on a cyclone to achieve a fdr of about 3.0 with the motor in the midle of the mount so as there is room to go up or down on the pinion. So as to save me buying 20 differnt combos to see which ones fit best
Also aparently the brushless motor mount for the cyclone only raises the spur gear to allow larger spurs for mod racing (i could be wrong tho)

PRS . Precision Racing Systems has Everything from a 15t pinion to 64t pinion.. And spurs from 76 to 132 .. All 64 pitch ... If you need more than that something is wrong ... They also carry a full line of 48 pitch also ..

any one know how to find out what teeth in 64pitch would a 42t 48 pitch be?
like is there a method to find out what is the same size as in one pitch v's the other??
also it would be nice if there was another company making larger pinions and smaller spurs, as it would be better to have something locally available here in aus,
and also what if presision racing systems goes bust or something that means im back to square 1 of nothing available.

Yeah PRS gears are nice but everywhere I can find them wants to charge me $10 for shipping. I tried emailing PRS a couple of times to see if they would use regular mail or even priority mail but never got a response.

LOSI123, to get what you want in 64p, you multiply your current gear by 64, then divide by 48. It is the reverse from 64p to 48p, multiply by 48 then divide by 64. So I believe you would want an 84t spur and 56t pinion, it would be physically the same size as the 63t spur (48p) and the 42t pinion (48p).
I definitely recommend the prs gears, I have been running them for a year, and the spurs are machined instead of molded, so no wobble.

PRS is upto 65 on the pinions now - we ran a 76 spur w/ a 65 pinion on the 21.5 motor on the VELODROME last weekend (It was too tall, we ended up back down to a 62 pinion)
I have a few HUGE 48 tooth pinions that are quite old...they were made by DELTA...found them a couple years ago at a HobbyTown USA in AZ (I think they are 50 and 51 tooth)
