Looking at those numbers my guess would be they are two batch old IB4200's.

This is where traying your cells comes in very handy. Always discharge and tray your pack. If you see a cell that's dead, voltage check it...if it's abnormally low, remove it. I am starting to realize one reason that I've never had a cell blow up might be because I never charge bad cells... Most of the stories I hear seem to be "the cell was 0 volts so I tried bringing it back.."

ROAR was quick to adopt LIPO but how about some guidelines for NIMH? LIPO sacks for everyone!

That's not good at all mate. Could I ask if you used the discharge function on the charger to get the cells down before you charged them, or did you use a individual discharger like the Trinity DPD? And to think that I charge my IB's on the top of my pit table right next to where I am sitting too! I would n't mind going back to GP3700's. I never had any hassle with them at all. All the best bud, Chris.

I know guys that do everything correctly, by the book... and still had a pack blow up. You can't assume it's user error or that it can't happen if you do things a certain way.

It seems to be more of a luck of the draw thing...

I'm not familiar with the recall if that's what it is. Surely there are only certain mfg. date codes that are being replaced. My IB 4200s are some of the early ones and I don't think these have had issues. But I'd gladly take Trinity's credit if they want them back.

I've seen this happen 3 times in the last few months. All 4200's. Some people were trying to tie them blowing up to a specific charger (not the one in this thread.) I went out to Harbor Freight and got these fire-proof bags for valuable documents, on the recomendation of a post Dawn Sanchez responded to after ROARS receint meeting. 10 bucks!! This was suggested for Li-po safety reasons... my NiMh's are charged in this bag now..

My 4200 pack blew up last night too. Ihad it charging at 5amps and up it went with a bang. I usually dicharge at 20 amps, equalize each cell and then repack it at 20% for storage. So Ireally don't know what happened to this one. Ihave noticed that a few other packs have started venting a lot now.
Can I just replace the one blown cell or is it safer to just get rid of the pack?

I use IB4200 too and have a slight different issues. The pack won't take charge any more, only up to 800mah or so at 5A. I try cycling it, equalizing it with tray ... I checked all cells are good (no dead cells)...

Anyone has any ideas what's going on?

I set it at 3 which is the same setting I have been using for all my packs so far, and also for this one pack for a long time before this problem came...

I also had that issue. You need to put about 2000mah into it,then discharge at about 20amps and then equalize the pack. Try to charge it again at 5amps.
Hope you have success.
