RCGT- what is the most reliable.....
......set up for this class. I am not looking for the most hitech, the fastest, the trickest......just pure solid reliablity in a 17.5, an ESC, a servo......just some suggestions.
I will be running a Tamiya TA05 and will in the beginning at least, be using a Futaba 3PM FASST.

I like the Tekin RS, The software upgrades keep you current and I have never had one let me down and the people at Tekin really stand behind their product and offer great service. These can be bought new at stormer for $159 or you can find them used for around $120.
I like Futaba s9550 or s9551 in TC's I find them to be great dependable servos that can be bought for around $86 new and around $50 used.
Motors... The Duo 1 and Duo 2 seem seem to be the most popular amongst the fastest 17.5 guys. Both the Tekin and the Novak are good also.

Tekin makes some really good ESCs. Once you get hotwire, you can go even deeper into the settings. I've used both Trinity and Novak motors. Go with a Duo 2 or Novak Ballistic. They are much more tunable than the duo or SS motors.

hi hebiki, I know Tim, and you are right, he is a great source of info, and I have his opinion. I just wanted to see what the rest of the RCGT community has to say.
gashuffer, thanks...I was giving that some thought. The silver can in my Porsche Cup car was freakin bulletproof, and the one I had the black can in was fast and always stayed cool.

Ha... I don't know about that...
Hey. regarding the silvercan/blackcan... they are bullitproof, but you will be way off pace... I would go with a Brushless setup so you dont have to buy twice...
I think we chatted abou this on Wed night... but IMHO, Get yourself a Sphere TC, and any of the newer 17.5's Novak, Trinity, but I am partial right now to the new SP 17.5. If you get the Sphere used, polly can get it from under 100...
You could also get the Havok Combo for about the same price. ...
I know the Sphere and the Tekin will fit properly into the 05...

Tim, I am leaning towards the Novak set-up, especially the ReMan stuff they have. Cost is an issue, because I want to be on the track ASAP so I can have some driving time and a race or two before the RCGT Series race in Feb at Village.
Worst case scenario, I buy new and support MDI....I am getting a couple of bodies and all my other stuff from there.

Most of us in Palm Bay are running Novak Havoc/GTB and SS motors. No issues as of yet, almost a year later.
I'd also recommend a high-speed servo. I've driven your basic Futabas and high-speed servos; there is a noticable difference. I don't have any part numbers off the top of my head though, sorry.

Frank,
I don't know how I forgot this... but the SpeedPassion GT2.0 LPF is a PERFECT speedo for the 05, just have to do a little dremeling to get it to fit.. but I have two of them.. and they are awesome...

I have two of the 60A V2 Ezruns... I bought the second one because I was surprised on how compact and how well they run...
But in my TA05 v2:
Mamba Max + 4600Kv Combo
Airtronics MX-3FG + FHSS-2 receiver (these things are TINY!)
Associated DS1313 Servo (I love the Associated servos)
The thing runs great, the Mamba Max fits in the ESC area (almost like it was sized to fit a Mamba)...

In my TA05 IFS-R for RCGT:
Tekin RS - fits with room to spare, GTB was a little tight, just barely fit
Futaba 9551 - works great so far
Novak and Fantom 17.5 - no problems there!
