the futaba 9602 is the same size as the 9650 but is a faster, lower torque, analog metal gear with less freeplay compared to the plastic geared digital 9650.

the 9650 with MKS's metal gears is a popular servo for 500 heli's. i just installed a set of these in my 12scale but haven't run it yet. on the bench it seems to work ok and much reduced lash. (i don't have a precise measurement but it seemed that half the lash was from the servo/horn connection and the rest from the internal geartrain)

the servo is the MKS 9660, the mfg site is:
http://www.mks-servo.com.tw/NARO-BK1.htm

some sources:
http://www.mtahobbies.com/
i don't see it right off on their website but i just bought a set from him, i know they stock them.

i think most 'heli' specialists will know or have them , like:

Hello all!!

I'm new to the 1/12th scale scene and I just bought a 12r5 and have a couple questions after reading thogh hundreads of post... sorry if I ask a question that has already been answered.

On the 12R5 that I am building... I will be running 1s lipo. I pre ordered the Reedy 4600mah 3.7v 1s pack and was wondering if there will be any modifications that need to be done to the chassis???

Also, I have yet to buy a servo and was wondering if there are any other servos other that the Futaba S9650 and the KO PDS951? I see that Team Orion has a low profile servo out but I'm not sure if it will fit... the dimensions are 40.8 x 20.2 x 25.4mm. What servos are you guy running??

Last, what are the part numbers for the side springs and the rear springs that are options for the 12r5???

Thanks for all the help in advance!!!

Marv

Ooops!!! One more question I forgot to ask...

I have been running a Spektrum module and receiver in my Airtronics M11 for the past 4 years... are there any issues with 2.4ghz in 1/12th scale cars??? I remember reading in the magazines a few years ago when DSM was just starting out out that carpet cars had problems with static. Is this still the case??? Will I need to run my 75mhz receiver and module???

Thanks again!!

Ultramarv

I'd get the Futaba or KO that people are saying. I got a cheaper hitec but it does not line up with the holes very well. for the sake of $55 the futaba is very good and i will be buying one myself.

as for spring, i just bought these sets as i was told they will fit and i could not find any associated ones in kits.

http://cgi.ebay.com/Calandra-Center-...d=p3286.c0.m14

http://cgi.ebay.com/Calandra-Rear-Si...d=p3286.c0.m14

Otherwise look in your parts manual and search the part numbers on towerhobbies.com they have all the associated ones seperate.

i run a spektrum S3000 receiver in my 12R5 with a DX2.0 handset and have no problem at all.

as far as the lipo goes. i know the SMC has the little dips in the case to sit in where the cells would on the chassis. i beleive some people are glueing on a lexan sheet of some sort which has these dimples to keep the battery stable. but i only run 4-cellls so i could not say for sure......

hope all goes well for you. hope it goes well for me too as i just started

Anyone know if the new SMC 4900 40C 1S LiPO will fit under the shock on the 12R5?

Hey Marvin,

I just finished my 12R5 and will be taking it to VRP this Thursday night to put some laps on it. If you can, try and come down.

I'm going to start with mine geared 42/75 and see what happens. It's a Tekin RS Pro, Fantom 13.5, Fantom 5000 40c LiPo combo. Tires are 44.5mm rear and 43mm front for now. It's been a long time since I've run a 1/12th scale car. Can't wait to get this on the rug!!

Thanks Curtis!!!

I just got mine and just started the build. Not sure if I can make in Thursday down to VRP but I plan on running as soon as possible. Need some track time to learn how to drive it!!!

So I guess I shouldn't use the stock 96tooth spur that came with my kit, huh???

Steve Smith and I plan on running at Nexus and VRP (if they start racing 1/12th scale).

Thanks for you help. I'm sure I'll be asking you a million questions. I know you are a great driver and I know Mark Johnson is too!!!
