Default question

OK hopefully you's dont all get sick of my questions. i read the first 26 pages now of this thread to get some basic info and it seems there is lots of talk about rollout and gearing.
would someone be so kind to post a link to a rollout chart which i can print. also, the spur with the kit looks like a 64pitch where i have heaps of 48pitch pinions. is there any problems changing to a 48p spur.
Is gearing to a desired rollout the same as gearing to a desired "final drive ratio"??? what i mean is, are you basically gearing to go the fastest the motor can without overheating (depending on track size offcoarse).
thanks in advance, and hopefully a good roll out chart will put it all in perspective.

There are a couple compounds out that don't show on Jaco's website. They also have orange rear compounds available now. Its a yellow tire with a ring of grey around the outside edge. Supposedly helps with the tire peeling away from the side bite the yellows develop. RCAmerica has them in stock . . . maybe the pinks too.

Does anybody have a good setup for a low traction asphalt track for 1s/13.5?

The hobbytown i live near is so dumb. They have a brand new 12L4 advertised for $224 and dont even have any 12R5's. Not that i was going to buy one (id stick with XRAY any day) but they should still carry a new car and maybe they wouldnt always complain that theyre sales are down. Stupid people i swear.

Just venting on rctech i guess

Try gearchart.com that will help. Also 64 pitch spurs and pinions make power delivery smoother but damage easier.

Default Motor mounting question

When mounting a motor into the standard pod i have noticed that the flat full face motors like the Tekin hit the carbon top plate at the front mounting screw. This limits haw far forward the motor can move hence restricts the gearing.
What are people doing about this? Are you filing the carbon so the motor can slide all the way forward?

Also how free should the steering blocks be on the king pins?

Thanks

I just slighly dremeled the smallest amount of CF possible off the top and bottom plates untill I could get the motor movement I needed. That was only with a 17.5 lipo using a 76 sput though. I am now running smaller rollouts and am using a 72 spur. I bet I wouldn't need the extra clearance now. What kind of rollout are you trying to hit; with what motor/battery/esc/settings combination?

Thanks Andrew

At this stage still building the car. Just wanted to get the maximum movement instead of getting to the track and find it will case a limit to the gearing. Will be running 4-cell NiMH 10.5 to start with.
What brand 72 pin Spur? PRS?
What about the streering blocks on the king pins?

You def won't need the extra room with 4 cell 10.5. My 72 spur is an RW, but with 10.5 you might want like an 88. Kimbrough makes a nice one. AS for the blocks they should flop around. I usually polish my kingpins. It might take a run or two before the balls get worked in though.

I got my new 12r5 kit and body today. went together beautifully. i did have to run a 3.2mm drill bit through the steering blocks though, as they were a little tight on the hinge pins. but other than that all good.

one question i had is, what size allen key fits the very small screws that screw into the ends of the rear pod links to hold the pivot balls in. The part number for the screw is 4672 (M2x6 sized). i have a 1.5mm allen key that i use for pinions and stuff and even thats too big. the kit didnt come with a tool small enough either. anyone else have this problem?

last question:
i have a Roche 10.5 turn brushless under way and i will be getting a 4cell gtb speedy. what size pinion/spur should i start with. i was thinking an 80t spur and then a bunch of pinions. any ideas on rollout, keeping in mind i dont have a tire truer so i will start with brand new diameters.

thanks
Alex
