I'm just building up a new R5.1, and one of the pivot balls is half the height of the other 4, it has a semi-sphere atop rather than a full sphere. I don't remember this being the case from the first R5.1 I built. Is this normal? Should I be using the half pivot ball for the pod?

I'm not sure I totally understand what you mean but all the pivot balls should be the same. Sounds like you might have gotten one that was machined improperly. Could you post a photo of it?

Unfortunately I can't post a photo because I broke my camera last week.

I can try some ASCII art though:

normal:

/ \
\ /
/ \

abnormal:

\ /
/ \

I hope that is instructive.

I have a spare pivot ball from another kit, so no problem, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't doing myself out of an upgrade by not installing it.

Ok I follow you, yes I would suspect it is a bad ball.

Does anyone make a damper tube for the 12R5? Seems like it is only the 5.1 etc.. that have it. I emailed Speed Merchants and they said the 1 for the 5.1 was not an exact fit for the 5. But that if I was skilled witha Dremel, it was close. I think me being skilled with a Dremel is debatable at best Are there any others out there?

Rick or Kevin, on your Worlds 5.2 setup has a shock length of 73mm. How did you get that length? When I make the shock as long as I can with the set screw just touching I get 66mm. Did you unscrew the ball cap almost all the way out or something??
Thanks

My ball cup in unscrewed so that there is 2.4mm between it and the base of the aluminum piece.

I was under the impression (according to the write up on RedRC and the stickers on his body) that Volker was using the "special" JFT tires... but the setup sheet from the Worlds says Jaco Pinks.

had the car handleing ok indoors but had a hell of a time getting it around outdoors.
anyone have suggestions for setup to run on a sugarwatered parking lot?

running 35wt center with gold, 50wt side with blue/gold, 1mm pod droop, .20 springs up front with kit settings otherwise.
car is fast, but pushes like a MOFO. doesnt carve the corners like the other wgt cars do.
