I just built my 12r5.1 and wanted to know what parts would be good to have in my box and what tires work well on most crc carpet tracks?

Thanks

I usually run a 71 or 72 PRS spur. That will get you were you want to be....

That for a 17.5?? What pinion do u use or can u fit to get to 2.56? Sorry for the lack of knowledge, but I'm just gettin into 1/12 and tryin to get it figured out so I don't make the wrong order. Just went to gear cart and punched in 72/28 and that will put me at 2.57. This will get me where I wanna b, but will I be able to achieve proper gear mesh?

I generally use GearChart to workout my rollout. http://gearchart.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=chart.create. You'll need to know your rear tire diameter. Put in your spur, pinion and Tire Diameter and It'll give you your rollout (in mm). play with your numbers to get the rollout you need. You can get the same rollout adjusting with large spur, small pinion or smaller spur, larger pinion, but remember for a technical track you prolly looking for more torque coming out of turns so go for the smaller pinion...

I run a 43mm tire, 43 Pinion, 73 spur on a smallish technical track, which comes out at about 80mm rollout. Thats with a Tekin 13.5.

I'm no expert. ran my first 12th scale indoor season this past fall, but hope this helps.

So is it rollout I need to b concerned with, or fdr?? Really havin a hard time with this and hate not understanding something. With elec off-road just had to use trans, spur, and pinion and get the correct fdr and it was good to go.

Yeah for Pan cars, trans ratio is basically 1. So ignore that and focus on Rollout (which is tire, spur & pinion). Agreed, its somewhat of a witch craft and gave me a headache when I first get into on-road (coming from offroad).

There are various places online that explain rollout. As long as you have a target for your motor (which you do - 2.56inches I think someone gave you, which is around 65mm) you can work out what you need from that.

Purchase two of three spurs / pinions in the ball park for what you need so you can adjust as you put the car on the track and get a feel for what you need...so say go buy a 73, 75, 77 spur, and a 43, 45 , 46 Pinion. And if you don't have a tire truer, ask someone to true your tires down to something smaller than the stock size (I run Jaco's so they're usually larger than say the CRC's that are often pre-cut).

Ok well with rollout being the main cosideration... I'll be running a 17.5 on a 30x60 tight technical track, what rollout should I b lookin for to be competitive and stay within safe ranges for my motor and esc??

The 2.56 I listed is just a recommendation I got off of a brushless gearing chart from novacs website. Not a recommendation from anyone in particular

I ran 13.5 last year so not sure on rollout..

...But, I got some info from a friend of mine, seasoned 17.5T 12th Scale racer. He's runs 49 pinion. 76 spur on a 43mm tire, puts the rollout around 87.

Hey guys I'm having trouble with the ride height. I got a brand new 12R5 the first two set of tires that I had on the car everything was fine. Now I can't get all four corners to be equal height. Looking at the car from the front right rear corner is lowest of all four corners. Now I did take the whole car apart to check and see if anything was bent; everything looks good. Front tires are trued equal and so are the rears. I even tried to much all the ride height shims and the car is still leaning to the right side. I have Jaco and Xceed tires and it's the same with both of them. Has anyone experienced anything like this before. Any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Sometimes the front springs sag, so that's an easy thing to try and replace.

If it is more off than that, I'd take a close look at the plastic parts in the front end. Try swapping the arms and see if things change. I did have one arm that came with a slight bend molded into it. Couldn't see it with your eye, but it threw the ride height off at the back by nearly 1mm. Also make sure your chassis plate is flat.
