I always run mine all the way up. As many adjustments as there are on a 12th, I leave that one alone for the sake of simplicity and consistency. I don't need any more adjustments to try and confuse me!

This is hard to describe in writing , so bare with me...
The procedure for checking preload is: pick up your car and look at it from the side. Compress your center spring until your pod is flat with the chassis. Barely touch one side spring to the lower pod plate. Hold it there and look across at the other spring to check preload.

Set your springs with a TINY amount of preload and then set your tweak...

This is a good place to start and I hope this helps.

I have just bought my self an 12R5.1. and i read that alot of you guy's are adding these alu.braces to the carbonfiber piece that hold the side springs.
What good does it do performance wise? i am just a newbie looking for answers to learn new things

The only reason I have it on my car is because I bent a couple of the aluminum standoffs included in the kit. Its for durability, not performance. I have heard a couple guys say it affected their car this way or that, but I don't buy it.

Ok. Just bought my 12R5.1 tonight, and not off to a good start. The kit was missing the O rings for the shocks! They are identical to the O rings used in past AE 1/12 scale shocks, correct? Anyone else have this happen?

Another question, anyone try side springs from other compaies? Just curious. Any info will help. Still gettin parts outta the bags. Hopefully I'll have it ready for this Saturday.

+1 The springs need to "thouch" the links with a little preload. When the car feels difficult to drive you can ad a little pre load (1/2 turn). You also need to adjust your tweak with these springs, Make sure the don't have a big difference when your tweak is set. When the have a to big difference, therse something else wrong....

O Rings ar not the same as the L4 shock, if I'm correct.

I used CRC Side Springs on the Euro's, but they are way to hard. The car feels really bad with these. Just use the blue one's I'm almoste only using these or the Gold or Silver ones... Start with the blue's

I have spare o-rings if you need them.

got a 12r5.1 on the way.

What are some of the issues to keep an eye out for on the car?

Never done 1/12 before but figure this would be a good class to get into out here and free up a vehicle for one of my girls to run.

- front lower suspension arm, sometimes the pivot balls are too tight (I thought it had been corrected, but as of late it seems like it may be occuring agian)
- upper arm -make sure you thread the turnbuckles in as straight as possible (that will make camber as caster adjusments more accurate)
- shocks -dry fit the caps so that you can get a feel for how they go together. For some they are easilly cross threaded.

That's all I can think of for right now.

Yes same o-ring as previous micro vcs shock. We made a new part number for this kit because you only need o-rings, not all the other rebuild parts in the previous shock.

Most people seem very happy with the kit blue springs, others will fit if you wish to experiment.

Ok I'm an IDIOT. I just found the O rings. Apparently, bag AA which contains the O rings is not in bag A where I thought it would be. It was in the bag with the CHASSIS! Needless to say the shocks are built and are rather smooth. Now I gotta call Don at AE and tell him to not ship the O rings.
