i didnt hear that yet, and heard about him a few months ago, but you could be right, im not sure. You're right the next world championships is next, but i still thought they should have it on the market for the people's season as well, not just one race. but youll find something wrong with this post as usual, but thats what i think

Honestly, if you have been involved in projects like that you would know timelines don't always come through as you would like them.. I know for a fact that the carbon material has been very scarce in the last two years or so. We have been building our own chassis for oval and 1/12th scale and MANY of our deadlines passed because of material availability.. and an all new car there will be a lot of that.. be thankful they have a new car.. I for one will get one and reserve judgement till I get a chance to shake it down.. Just like the B4 thats been whooping for years.. it takes a while to come up with something to take you to the next level..

Cheers,

Patrick

yeah, but i find offroad different, because it doesnt evolve as quickly as onroad, but youre right. Im suprised CF is scarce, because you see a ton of it around, and i didnt think you can really run out of it, can you?

Most in the aerospace industry know that carbon is in very short supply because of demands from China, Aerospace (US and Europe), and the war effort. The amount of carbon that we use for a year in RC is a drop in the bucket compared to what they're doing with large aircraft. It's not a raw material issue it's a manufacturing issue. New plants are always being built to produce carbon (especially continuous strand).

With that being said, there's going to be a point where it's cheaper to mold a glass reinforced chassis than use carbon.

i guess so, how is the weight and strength compared to CF? and is carbon fiber strands man made, or is the element needed to make the fabric?

It is man made when they lay it in plates. I think the fiber it self is made in a machine, but a person lays out the fiber and epoxy.

Carbon Fiber is composed of two parts, the carbon or graphite material and the epoxy matrix... the process for refining the carbon strands is a bit involved baking it between 300* C and 2000*C depending on the kind.. the main forms of carbon + epoxy mixing are: wet layup and Prepreg. Wet layup is the most common (import hoods and low end builds usually use polyester resin), and Pre preg is usually how most large volume higher dollar parts are made. The resin is embedded in the carbon weave and refrigerated until just before layup.. More expensive but usually results in less porosity and a better piece.. All in all, its all man made...

warplanes use a lot of carbon.. we are at war... (my personal views will not be discussed on this issue lol)

The Red Bull F1 team is going through a lot of CF, too.

He is notoroius for making very quick and light cars at the expense of durability. One of the interviews with another team he worked for was interesting in that they said every time he'd turn his back they would add 25% to his designs

formula 1 season is crazy this year, but so far so good.

With CF, dont you brush it with resin, and then lay thoe clothes on it to absored it? do you even need heat for that, i saw it made without heat on youtube, and it was fairly simple.
