just wanted to give some quick props to Danny and the SMC 5000 pack. I picked one up at the beginning of the summer and after the IIC I have a total of 159 runs on it.

I run the pack, then put it on charge immediately after at 8amps, I have balanced it 3 times total, it finishes the charge at 8.4v, still takes 4690mih, and it was more than enough to put me on an A Main pace. I don't warm it, or re-peak it before I run and it has PLENTY of juice.

thanks again for such an outstanding product.

Thanks for the compliments.

Heating will drop the IR and improve the average voltage. I don't think this hurts the packs unless it's overdone but I reccomend that clubs and races look into not allowing this. The reason why I think it should not be allowed is one more thing that will be done by the majority to try and get that edge so if no one does it that would be one less thing to worry about.

Danny,

Any updates on the top outlet SMC LiPo's that are due out soon? Thought I remember reading they'd be out around IIC time. Also any pics of the new configuration would be great.

The 3200s and 4000s with the new cases have started to ship out late last week and the 5000s should be in this week. The saddle pack is also shipping.

The IIC allowed no more than 110 F at their race. So, that should be a "safe" call on the max temp...
Bill, thanks for the advice and I will give it a try.

Now when you come on this thread and say words like lower IR and improve average Voltage you think every one that have a lipo not going to try heating.

Danny my 5000's ran very well at the IIC in the 13.5 classes, i never bothered to discharge, heat or cycle while i was there, just re-peak and go. The only thing i did was balance on my first charge on day 1 just for good measure.

how many packs is everyone else using on a race day? i figured you'd need at least two, one in the car and one on the charger. is there enough time to charge a pack between races?

I run 1 pack for club racing and big racing.

5000 pack. 8 amp charge, no balancing, no warming. charge, run, then back on the charger to peak.

thats the inapropriate, though effective method I use.

130+ charges and counting
