Balancing SMC with V balance--Trackpower / Orion type
After several attempts to find the right adapter, buying 2 that didn't work, I found the correct adapter for the SMC. There are a few misleading posts on this topic in this and other threads....Thought I'd save someone else the headache. Here is the correct, direct plug in, no hassle adapter that allows the V balance (Orion / Trakpower) type balancer to work on the SMC 7.4v.

Balance charging is not needed as packs should stay balance for a long time but if you do balance charge it doesn't hurt.
When we cycle our packs we use balance chargers and the reason why we cycle our packs is to make sure they are no cells with minor shorts which caus inbalance. We pick these out and send them back as these will tend to have issues.

You don't have to use a one as I think the packs will stay in balance a long time. What you can do is to charge your pack up to 8.2 or 8.30 volts when your at the track and ask someone with a balance charger or balancer to finish off your charge once in awhile. This way you will be sure it stays balanced.

Are they the smc 4000mAh 28c 7.4v Lipo Battery w/ Carbon case? When are you going to up the C rating? I see other packs have 35c 4200 mah. I'm sure in the 20mm carbon case with leads from the top this would be nice.

Yes they are in the red/black carbon looking case with top wires.
We can't release higher capacity in the current 4000 case or higher C rate as the cells take up all the room. We would need to release a new case and since we just got the rules for EFRA/BRCA we will do a case for there rules which should allow us to increase the C rate and possibly capacity.
Just because companies release packs with higher C rate it doesn't mean that it's true. You can search for the thread I did about false Lipo advertising. SMC uses 90% capacity retention at full C rate discharge to get the accurate C rate. Some use 80% which means that adds about 5C so we could claim 33C with our 28C packs if we use the 80% method.
We hope to have some good info soon on our website about Lipo C rate testing.

Well I haven't raced since Aprils trophy race in Arkansas at the Nationals track. Been busy with college and playing with my real car. Anyways, I just unpacked my RC stuff a few days ago. I'm about to see how the SMC 4000 lipo packs have held up for 7-8 months of storage. I think I put 1000mah into them before I left Ark. Not sure.
I'll be using the same method that I have used in the past with my GFX charger. Just scroll back several months in this thread for my list of results that I had kept a log on. I'll post up my results Sunday or Monday. I'll have to cut and paste that once I find them. But, tonight, my storage voltage after all these months is 7.47v on Pack 1, and 7.48v on Pack 2. Now, I start my cycles. I'll record each cycle and post up my findings.....
