Default Checkpoint Lipos, what exactly are the cells

Hi,

Seen the new checkpoint 5400 lipos and I want to know for these packs, are they:

1. Trakpower made

2. 25C

3. Do they come with any connector at all?

Thanks.

Cain,

I took my new Checkpoint 5400 apart and was extremely disappointed at what I found.

Enerland cells...yea!
Part number on the cells. PF9743127LP...

If you look this part number up on Enerlands website the LP series is their bottom of the line cell. 5350 mah and only 16c discharge rate for this particular one.

Bottom line..on the track it performed very poor compared to my other batteries.

I called Trakpower today to get confirmation that they are not using the same cell in their new 5400, since they do the Checkpoint. No response back from them yet.

Thats very interesting indeed. I have seen them advertised as being 20C on most sites, If this is really the case about the C rating, seems like Rounding up is the new low thing to do for lipos.

I can get the actual hyperion version of the 5350 for sub $90 with that discount they have at www.b-p-p.com , seems most of the cost is just for the case then.

Hopefully trakpower's 4900 and newer packs are true 20C. I am looking very hard at a new pack.

Yep, the Team CheckPoint 5400 LiPo is 20C. My LHS was selling these for about the same price as the Orion 3600 LiPo's, $100.00. I don't have any evidence, but for the price, I would bet they are closer to 15C.

I looked at several different batteries after selling my Orion 3200's, but in the end decided to go with the Orion 3600 LiPo's with a 25C rating. After getting them on the track, I could not tell a difference between the 3200 and 3600, but the 3600 mounts up better and if more stick-on weight friendly with the edges being flat.

After Stetler took his CP apart, I took my Trackpower apart. We couldn't find the exact part number on Enerlands website, but the last two letters on the part # were XP, which is Enerlands highest C rated line of batts. They start at 25C and go up to 30 C. So I am assuming that Trackpowers 4900 "20C" is actually higher than what they are saying.

On track testing in a dirt oval modified showed this. The Orions (all 3), and the Checkpoint battery were all considerably slower compared to the TP. Actually, going from a 3600 25C orion to the TP, was like going from a 6.5 to a 5.5 motor!!

I'll be anxious to see what Trackpower says about their new 5400 25C.

Thanks for the info guys. If I go with a hardcased lipo, I think trakpower will be my next purchase. Just need to see what kind of price the new 25C packs will command versus the current 20C ones.

Of the two that would be the best way to go, without a doubt from what I've experienced first hand.

Don't forget to give the Core 5000 a look too. I'm sure you've read all that Shawn Palmer has posted over on their threads and the help he has been to everyone. Seems to be the most forthcoming supplier right now.

Good luck.

Default Update from TrakPower re 5400 20C and 4900 25C

Hello, this is Julian Cox of TrakPower.

This is to confirm that we are having some issues with the Team CheckPoint 5400 at present. About 300 pieces of that OEM pack have been built and released in error with light-weight cells that are normally used for F3A competition aeromodelling for the FlightPower side of our business. We are working hard to resolve this and will announce the availability of the correct 20C version asap. I would invite you to read on for customer service options for users who are affected by this error.

TrakPower TP49002S 25C Race Pack:

The TrakPower TP49002S is a true 25C package with an exclusive TrakPower cell. This pack is currently unsurpassed in the market as a performance race pack. We strongly encourage all users focus attention on the TP49002S as the pack of choice. Duration with the 4900 is well in excess of race conditions and the power density exceeds the 5400 considerably even in the 20C format. Retailers/Dealers in North America can order the TP49002S pack through the same channels as Team Checkpoint or contact FlightPower USA (919) 741 6310.

Current customer service options:

If you have a Team Checkpoint 5400 pack and you are not happy with the performance, please contact [email protected]. He can do one of two things for you immediately: Option A. provide a TP49002S at 50% allowing you to keep the 5400 as a long-duration practice pack, or Option B. Offer you the 25C TP49002S as a straight swap. We will add the option of swapping out to the correct 20C 5400 as soon as practical for those requiring the high capacity option.

Thank you very much for your support!

The TrakPower lipos are the best lipos out there right now. I have 2 4900s right now. What EXCELLENT PRODUCTS! You add this type of customer service and I will never use anything else.

Julian,

That is great news to hear. I have heard nothing but postitive things about Trakpower and your parent company and this just reinforces those comments. I have received nothing but grief from some individuals for posting the information I did about the Checkpoint battery and have even had a Hobby shop claim to talk to Checkpoint and all but call me an uninformed liar.

Trying to contact Checkpoint directly proved fruitless also. They asked me how I got their number and gave me another number to call. It was the Hobbico help line, who obviously could not help me at all in this situation.

Again, Thank you for being forthcoming about the honest error and making it right. I will be in touch with Steve again soon.

Thats great to hear that Trakpower is going to make it right. I have been pretty impressed with the communication with them which is why when it came time to order a hardcase lipo, the choice was pretty simple.

Looks like an Xfactory X6. Uses a B4 front end. From what I understand, its supposed to work good really good on blue groove surfaces.
