Just because it doesn't have an offensive odor doesn't mean it's good for you and just because it has an offensive odor doesn't mean it's bad for you. I know many people that get violently ill around Jack not to mention it's one of the worst compounds for your rugs lifespan. Something the IIC or Snowbirds don't have to worry about because their rugs are disposable.

Seems to me I remember that the MSD(?) listing for Jack had far worse compunds than Paragon. This is comming from a track owner that swore he'd never use Paragon and I now swear that I would never use anything but Paragon for my track.

So what we want is a low odor Paragon. I'm all for that and yes our track here in Denver needed to be replaced after 3-4 years due to the amount of FLUIDS in the track. But I like not having to fumagate the cloths when I get home from a Paragon track. Just my 2 cents.

It sure would be nice to have an alternative that isn't damaging to your rug and don't smell everything else up like Paragon. The problem is the odor causing compound in Paragon, Oil of Wintergreen, is also the same compound that helps to condition the carpet fibers. The other compounds are almost exclusively solvent based and the reason they are bad for the rubber backed CRC carpet.

The only compound Franc Calandra will endorse for his carpet is Paragon. Frank can tell you what other compounds will do to new rug. Just cut a few small swatches, thro them in a small jar filled with the most common traction compounds. Paragon is the only one that doesn't attack the carpet. I did this with Paragon, Jack, TQ Mod (orange, TQ Red and Blue as well as Niftech and every single one of them attacked the fibers/and or backing. After a few days one of the compounds melted everything into a pile of goo.

Sure would be nice if CRC could come up with a compound that worked as well as Paragon that was as good as Paragon for your rug that had very little odor. My track would be one of the first to jump on that.

Paragon does make an odorless product, but it has been a long time since I have used it. I seem to remember it not being as awesome as Paragon ground FX

One guy I know claims adding a small amount of vanilla extract to your Paragon can will neutralize most of the odor. I haven't tried this though.

Let me tell you there is nothing like walking into a fast food joint with your buddy only to have the clerk behind the counter yell out, "Who the hell smells like Ben Gay!" Oh the fun we had with that.
