I leave most of the slop alone in my minis, but for the axles I do use thin teflon shims (Traxxas PN 1985) on the back side to remove that side to side slop. Works for me anyway.

I hope this helps you to find some tires.
Local to me the Sweep tyre is very popular.

I've been running 25s all round with glued front sidewalls on carpet. Outdoors on medium grip, medium temperature tarmac I've been using 25 rear, 33 front.

Currently running an Xevo Triumph but the carpet tyre setup was working well on my M-05.

Indoor carpet: Tamiya M grip front and rear. You can also use HPI M on the front and EXpress tyre on the rear.

Outdoors: Ride 3035 front and Cross 36 rear. Use either a spice 5mm medium insert in the front or a ride green or orange insert. For the rear use the Spice 5mm medium insert. The Cross is available in a square edge or round. Either will work. If you use the Sweeps then I would fit the 40 to the front with a green insert and the 25 rear. Note the front sweep tyres will wear fast. Solaris mini tyres hard also work well on the front of the mini, but the same as the sweeps they wear fast.

I have never used the Sweep on carpet so will not comment on how they work. The fastest guy's in mini on carpet usually use the Tamiya M grip with the Tamiya firm black insert. The HPI X patterns will also work on the front.

If you are running the MO5 then I would fit a Tamiya front shock tower and stand the front shocks up for a better handling car.

On a side note.

Ride height, springs and shock oil weight will all influence how well the tyres you select will work. If your car is already working then adjust your ride height for the diameter tyres you choose to run.

Later,

Calvin.

Bob,

Glad to read that your evil MO5M has now been exorcised. I know on the new M chassis TRF shocks I only use the one "o" ring to limit droop, as per instructions. I have found my MO5M and MO5L to work best this way.

The only other shocks I have used droop limiters on are the full scale TC TRF shocks which I used 4mm of spacers per shock, so they would work on the mini. I have one setof these on my back up car.

Although some say springs don't make a difference I have found they can make a big difference to grip and what tyres you can use. The other thing that will change your cars handling is by fitting the front shock tower too your MO5 and making the shocks less progressive by standing them up.

Adding additional weight in the right places will also improve your cars handling, but some like to run there cars near the minimum weight. I have found with the BL system more weight equals more grip and less wheel spin.

Anyway, I hope everyone had an exceptional easter and didn't consume to much chocolate.

Later,

Calvin.

Hi. I'm looking for plastic steering bell cranks for the m05, that are going to get tossed out. I know many have upgraded to alloy versions already. I will pay for shipping. Thanks!

Can you post pictures how you mounted your MRT Personal Transponder on your M05?

Thanks in advance

Default Hobbywing 35A 13T EZRUN running with Brushed motors 20T Limit

Hobbywing 35A 13T EZRUN running with Brushed motors 20T Limit
In UK Tamiya minis at my local clubs (Kent) is taking off.
At the moment we run any sealed brushed motor no less than 20T.
Some of our clubs are looking at allowing Hobbywing 35A, 13T motor system to run with above brush motors.
Most of our clubs run on carpet.
What are your views on Hobbywing 35a 13T system, I know some of you run Tamiya black can sport-tuned motors with Hobbywing in same race meets.
Do you find Tamiya black can motors slower??
We find the Tamiya black can motor is slower compared to Ansmann 21T, HPI Saturn 20T motors we use now.
Really hoping that Hobbywing system will not be any faster.
After talking to a lot of UK racers thinking of racing Minis, the main thing that’s putting some off is going back to brush motors.
If brushless was allowed, I think it would make minis even more popular in UK.

You'll need to do some testing, there's no way around it. In our experience there's not a huge difference between the H/W and the Sport Tuned on most tracks.
And I suspect the same would be the case for the other motors that you're using. In fact I'd bet that if you allowed the H/W's, within 6 months everyone would switch to them anyway. That's certainly been our experience.
I repeat what I've said before - It's THE best thing we ever did for Mini racing down under, without question.

bodymot,

The 13T Hobbywing and other OEM brands are the legal systems for Australian Mini racing. This has made mini a more popular class and very few people use the black can anymore.

For equality you would require a black can that is putting out approx 22 000 to 23 000 RPM.

For the price the complete system is $120 Australian which is cheap. I have had my system in my mini for 2 years and alot of miles raced.

The BL system revitalised mini when racers were getting dis-enchanted with the build quality and varaiation in RPM with the sport tuned motor.

Good luck and I believe you are taking a forward step.

TFG,

+1 to your comments.

Calvin.

+2 on the HW brushless system, no maintenance, correction a couple of drops on the bearings on the rare occasion and definitely no turning back to a brushed motor!

Oh why oh why doesn't HW make a 17-18 turn version of their fabulous 13T system?!? I could really use that right about now. I know they make a 17.5, but it's not the same can and that's sort of the thing I'm after.

THe motors used by Hobbywing are actually made by another company.

The 13T is a 3000kv motor. The other company that makes the motors also makes a 2100 kv version of the motor
