Interesting idea Mats, but still wont fit.
The spacing for the mounting bolts is different on the 380 size can. And while you could possibly drill/slot new holes it still wont fit as the 'glued on end' will hit the layshaft and the belt tensioner support...

We have indoor Velodromes here too, but they're polished wood, no grip....

All cars in the video are M03/05's with Hobbywing 5.5 turn system. Speeds of around 80km/h.

The SCT truck (getting passed by a Mini!) is a HPI Baja clone.

looking at getting a Mini Cooper just for some fun club racing. all I know is that they run them stock brushed, FWD.
I have a few questions that I cant realy find an answer for. Should I get a M-03 or M-05? It looks like the pro kit has the oil filled shocks...what shocks should I use if I get a regular kit?
I have a bunch of 2s lipos but they are square not round, can you make the regular lipos work?

It does look like the regular kits do need some upgrades and I would probably be better off getting the pro kit...but I like the $110 kit price, just looking for a fun, cheap way to move into a little on-road.

After installing the TA03 ball diff (built as per rc-mini) on my m03, i felt improved on-throttle steering and more well behaved rear, but felt the car lost some off-throttle steering. Any advice on how to increase some off throttle steering, without compromising the rear grip, or is this a compromise I have to live with for the ball diff? Am using the red/yellow springs F/R with the kit oil (super mini CVA) and spice 40R all round. Running mainly on unprep asphalt (prob low grip) Hope I do not have to spend on new tyres though...

I have been through the same and just completely rebuilt my car after 2 years of racing on the same surface type. I had my TA03 diff built tight with AW grease. I have this time built it looser with normal ball diff grease and glued the bolt. Overall my car is better in this area, but I have also made some other changes, so can't say it will definite help. I think it will be compromise and a case of finding the balance you like.

Get an M05S if you can afford it. If not, buy the Pro kit but you'll still need to change the shocks as the clear ones break.
You CAN'T make the square lipos fit sorry - end of story..

Tyres...you cant run Spice 40's all round, it'll never work. We ALWAYS run softer tyres on the rear. And Spice 40's are super hard anyway!
If you're keen to stay with Spice I'd suggest 36 front/28 rear.

You can make the square batteries fit a MO5, if your allowed to modify the chassis. Happens all the time in Thailand.

I know it is not kosher for USA TCS racing or here in Australia, but is legal for Asia.

By running a softer rear tyre you will have more rear grip. If you want more steering then either lower front ride height, soften front spring and harden rear spring or use a softer oil up front.

All up we only ever run a harder tyre on the front and a softer tyre on the rear. That is what we have found best, when using the HW 13T BL system in our cars.

The other option would be to purchase the front shock tower for the MO5,(CF or alloy) and stand the front shocks up which will give more steering.

But hey, you should test things on your own car and running surface and decide what works for you.

After you have tried that, then try making the car wider or narrower front/rear, wider front/narrow rear etc. You might find that a combination of factors will make your car work better for you.

Once you have a decent setup then driver the wringer out of it and don't adjust anything.

Just my two cents.

Me , I know what makes me semi competitive. I have a base setup that I do not touch and tune only with tyres and inserts. I do not change anything when running on carpet or asphelt, just the tyres and lower or raise ride height. Car works good for my style of driving.

A wise man, TFG, advised a few years ago get a pretty decent setup and then learn to drive the car and stop messing with it. Took a little while for that to set in, but it is now working for me.
