I don't fill the diff housing with AW grease. Just a little on the gears and a little on the shims. No leaks. No mess. Just a very smooth yet limited slip diff.

I don't understand how everyone thinks putting a little grease on the gears and shims constitutes a limited slip The gear diff is sooo loose it slips constantly under any on power turning/rotation no matter what you do. I can hear it from 100 ft away and feel it too. In order to slow the thing down you need to pack it tight with grease and thats just so messy and does not last due to shearing. I don't know maybe I'm missing something here Don't get me wrong the gear diff works but, for racing I prefer a diff. Someone needs to make a gear/ball diff build video.

If you add more shims behind the outdrive gears it adds pressure to the planetary gears and make it a lot harder to get any diff action. You can almost get so tight it acts like a spool.

Winthrop Harbor is a little north and east of Gurnee Mills and Six Flags.

I found with the gear diff if i added spacers it wore the teath off the innergears and no matter what oil / grease i added it just poured out after one race , i even tried the really thick grease for the 5th wheel on a Articulated lorry but that made a real mess . . . . . . . .
And as little chunks fly off the gears it probably clumps all over the place in the teeth and just makes everything worse.
Also technically speaking i always thought slip in a diff was when the wheels turn independantly of the diff action (ie in a diff both wheels should spin at the same speed in same direction or the same speed in opposite directions), which would be impossible for a gear diff? Or do i misunderstand the terminology?
Yeah and if you pack the gears with grease you have to seal around the diff so it doesnt all fly out.

The reasoning behind packing the gear diff is to slow the rotation enough so that the wheels drag to try to keep traction between both. It only really slows the gear down with the feel of ball diff action.
With a ball diff when the car loads up to one side the opposite wheel will turn slower to maintain power/traction

Il Audi I live in Florida and New Jersey, but if I was in Il. I would definitly go to Winthrop
Yeah thats probably because the gears have very poor tollerances and do not mesh well. Putting excessive pressure on them is probably just going to exacerbate that.
