According to HPI, it should come out soon. I've seen MR. HPI using them at our local track.

tamiyarcracer,

I was advised by Champ they would be re-released mid July, however that has been and gone. Last inquiry I made I was informed that they did not know. I might have to send another E-mail see if they have another release date.

I had to perform a rain dance and howl at the moon for my last pair. Thanks Martin.

metro hobbies in box hill, victoria have a heaps of x patterns in stock. not sure if they do mail orders tho.


Has anyone tried the ride tyres? any thoughts on these tyres?

Be careful with HPI tyres. There are two versions of the X pattern ... belted and non belted. The non belted is not that good.

We use the Ride tyres here in Sydney. If using a full insert they work extremely well as a front tyre,. In particular the 3035. And some guys really like the 3020 as the rear tyre

A moulded insert that fills the tyre and doesn't let it "bag" in the middle.

We use the Ride insert or Spice 5mm . Both make for a hard packed tyre which scrubs a bit of the steering provided by the tyre and makes it well balanced. The other benefit of the Ride tyre is good wear

niznai,

The ride tyres can be packed with the following:

5.5mm Spice insert rounds the tyre out to much
5mm Spice insert seems to fill the tyre out well, used regularly
4.1mm Ride Insert gives the tyre a flatter profile and works well

foam insert that comes with the tyre good for cold temps but not normally used like this on the front. You need to consider packing out the rim.

The spice fitted inserts come in hard, medium and soft and the ride in green,orange and yelloow which equate to the same as the spice. We have found in most cases the harder tyre and insert fitted to the front and the softer inserted tyre to the rear. Dependant on what traction levels you have at the track, will determine what insert will work within the tyre. Best bet is to ask the local racers, however do not be offended if some will not always give out the full facts.

For us in Sydney, most of the tracks we run at we are using the firmer insert, similar to a touring car insert. In Melbourne they run softer inserts due to different track conditions.

Seriously though we all tune our cars using tyres not playing with our suspension setups. The 3035 front and 3020 rear with softer inserts seem to work for some who run softer suspension.

You really need to try some of these on your local track yourself. That way you will know what works or doesn't. If you can not afford to test tyres perhaps share things with a couple of other racers and compare notes. Don't just stick to one brand of tyres as we have had success with Cross square edged tyres on the rear rated at 36 with a hard insert and run the 3035 front. A grooved PIt Shimizu with a decent insert work as a rear tyre as well. The tyre combination is dependant on track conditions and temperature.

If you put a tyre on the front that causes oversteer then take that tyre off and put on a tyre that will give less grip so you end up with a little understeer. This will make your car easier to drive. The same if the back end is loose, then put on a firmer rear tyre to give some grip. After a while you will know what works at each track. I have had nights where the car was just doing donuts and I replaced only the rear tyres and the car was dialled. As I say it is all in the tyres.

Do not ask how many sets of tyres and combinations I have tried and I can still get it wrong..

I know long winded, but hopefully you get the idea.

Default Rear tyres

Thanks Greg and Calvin, this is gold dust info - I had really battled with rear traction in anything other than ideal weather conditions until fitting the Powers.

Might actually give the smaller tyres another try on the fronts as well, instead of 60D, just to re-test the theory on speed advantage of the 60D ;-)
