m04 is rear wheel drive.
m03 is front WD
get a m03 if you want to race, as most clubs only race m03.

Thanks, Wes- you are correct, any insert has been legal for several years now. However, Aaron also makes a good point about Tamiya inserts- their black or blue wide sedan insert similarly cut down would also be acceptable.

Well...after 12 years of racing RC cars I finally bought a mini cooper. I have had alot of fun putting the car together.
I do have a question or two though.
1) I put bearings in the car and have about 1 to 1.5mm of slop in the axels. What are you using to shim the axels?
2) I put the aluminim front hubs on the car. Are the heads of the bolts that connect the hub to the hub carrier susposed to stick up 1 mm?
Thanks for any help!!!!

congrats on the purchase.. i know i enjoy running mine as often as i can!
1) i used some generic 5mm shims ro reduce the play, either from Tamiya or Yokomo, i think. check Speedtechrc.com
2) seems like mine has a small gap on top and bottom of the kingpin, but no movement.

I'm not too familiar with Tamiya parts yet... Will the blue TRF shocks (part #49355) fit my M03? Will any TRF shock fit my M03? Or are there different types of TRF shocks, other than color? Thanks!
