Here's a stock list from Rainbow Ten and they're in stock there right now.

Plus an underneath shot of Tims car clearly showing the caterpillar mounted on a SWB M03..

Tony, that should be MANY thousands. Just for your info, Tony put me onto a company about a Fiat Arbarth body for my Mini, i sent the money and it was in Australia in 7 days, so if Tony said it is good, it is good

Yeah, I just checked the TCS rules and at least for this year the Silver Can is specified for Mini, so I'll guess they're what'll be used at Nats. In fact they've got an in-depth look at what are (now) allowable vs dis-allowed Silver Can motors appended to the bottom of the rules on their site now.

Interesting to hear about the Black Cans though as I JUST picked one up last week buying a fleet of Minis (2 complete M03's, a complete M04 w/new Miata shell, and a raft load of parts, tires and wheels) and was curious to try it. I've run a Silver Can in Stock 1/12 as an experiment and found they had less torque than a Stock motor. Surprises me that a motor could have LESS torque, but that may be what was given to gain the rpms. Shame about 'em burning out on you though. Our layouts tend to be smaller and tighter like yours, so maybe I'll put the Black Can aside for a more appropriate test.

That said, those bad boys look like a HOOT to drive!
Last year we used silver cans at the regional races at nationals we used black cans. Same for this year...

Hey Scottrik,

Here's the deal on motors in Minis per the rules for TCS.

You are required to run a sliver can motor, per the TCS web site, for all of the Regional Events.

At the Nationals, which I am leaving for shortly, they have "Hand Out" black can motors and a spec, Orion 3300 V-Max, battery that you must run. The motors are numbered teched and you only get them when you are at the track. No taking them home and working magic on them.

The idea is to make the racing fair for everyone, if you win and go to Japan you will be racing a black can out there.

The black cans are a little faster, 18-20,000 RPM verses 12-13,000 RPM and have a little higher amp draw, 1.7 to 1.9 verse 1.0 to 1.3 on my Indigy motor checker. BUT they don't last any were near as long, like Tip Toe said when it's hot they just seem to go flat.
