Default M07

Well I ran mine all day on Sunday with no issues. It is different to drive from the M05. It is certainly more consistant and easy to drive.
I fitted the soft swaybars, alloy rear suspension parts, motor heatsink, dcjs and full size TRF shocks.
I only tuned with tyres and was really just seeing how it would go.
Next time I will try changing the front swaybar to hard and possibly stiffer front springs.
I ran kit setup springs, 40wt oil front and rear, 3 hole pistons and 300k oil on the gearbox. I also fitted the metal gears, as I had them from my FF03.
My impressions are it will only get faster with more fine tuning. I ran the 13T HW system and 20T pinion. Used a HPI Honda Civic body. I did change some of the other parts like alloy hexes, low friction ball studs.
Others have found the car to be brittle, especially the rear hubs and front knuckles.
Looking forward to the next hit out with it. I used Sweep 40 front and Pit Shimizu rear only, ( when cold) and Spice 28 when warmer.
I did cut about 1mm to 1.5mm from the steering linkage to give toe out up front. This settled the car from being nervous. Plus I ran a full size battery pack.
So, how did it go? TQ and 20 laps every run. As I said very consistant and easy to drive. Just need to have spare c parts in your pitbox.

It was a bit hard to drive and you need to use a lot of expo and smooth the speedo. Front wheels were spinning and losing traction all time. Well and also put as much weight on the front bumper as possible.

Cheers

has anyone tried out ceramic bearings?any positive attributes ?.....even the negative ones.Looking forward to the responses.
I purchased a set of Acer ceramic bearings for my M07. Just started the build, but I did test how the gears spun using the ceramic bearings vs the kit ones (I did remove the oil that was caked on the kit ones). The ceramic spin a lot longer. I used my air compressor and applied air on the diff' w/ ceramics is spun significantly longer. The motion is silky smooth and even quieter. I also noticed that my kit gear set was not molded as nicely as I'd like, there was some wobble ..I had a gear set from my M03 that was much better, so using that instead (same gears).

Default M07

What ride height are people running on the M07?

I have the M-Chassis dampers installed with the long (TC) shafts, overall shock length is 59.5mm as per the manual.

With the black kit springs and the car ready to run, I'm only getting around 2mm of ride height on the front and 2.5 on the rear.

The spring adjusters are as far down as they can go without preloading on the springs (as far as I know they're not supposed to press on the spring but only used for ride height adjustment). My downstops are also not constraining down travel.

Am I supposed to lengthen the lower shock end to increase shock length and make the spring adjuster a bit further down to raise the ride height (say 4-5mm)?

I elected to use full size TC TRF shocks on my M07 with the kit springs. I had to wind down the collars a long way, as I am using sweep 55mm tyres, however the car works well.
I did not measure my ride height, I do it more by eye and pushing down on the car. I do have the front lower than the front.
I will measure when I get home. Photos of my M07 are attached.

Is there a gearset to convert the minis' (M07 particularly) spur to 48/64 pitch, or does everyone just buy mod .6 pinions?

That's a great resource. Thanks.

Does anyone know what needs to be changed to switch the M05 dcj axles over to the M07 version? I'm thinking just the dogbones?

Would be just longer dogbones, think the m07 is 33mm and older m03/m05 is 30mm...i think

Can you expand on this? Why is the M04 a wannabe touring car?

I think he's referring to the M04s with TC sized wheels (BMW, S2000, etc.).

But then don't forget that the MX5 which has M-sized wheels was released on the M04M.
