That was colt rc mini shocks..
I buy that because nearby tamiya LHS only sell trf m chassis damper but its to expensive.. (in my country) about $100(4pcs)
So i went to another LHS that selling colt and hpi brand..

The damper price is about $35(4pcs)
But the stock spring is extremely hard.. so i mix it with tamiya short spring(medium) shock oil still stock.. *idk what wt

As long the shock has same length, it should work fine...

Default Tamiya M-05 Ver. II R

I saw 2 posts about the m05 v2 pro R (racing spec) m-chassis in the past 15 pages.

So I thought id bring it up again.

I am considering getting one of these cars. Tower Hobbies has them for $209 and a $23 discount coupon coupled with no tax and free shipping. In my mind that's a pretty good deal.

What are your thoughts on this race spec m-chassis vehicle? Other than a body, tires and electronics, are there any nice to have upgrades for this? I think the v2 pro looks pretty complete, this version has DCJ drive shafts, and threaded aluminum dampers.

Also, I am new to m-chassis, what pitch gearing does this vehicle accept? M.06? And up to what size pinions can it handle? I bought some 22/23 for my XV-01, didn't use the because I went to 48P and hope I could possibly use the M.06 pinions if I get an m-chassis.

Is it futile to get this vehicle if I already have a xv-01? I almost exclusively street (on road) bash my car in front of my house. I already have an unused brushed ESC (Futaba mc330cr) and would silver can this thing. Is this esc usually allowed in M-chassis racing?

So many questions I have. Thanks for your patience. Id like to hear all your opinions 😀

If you don't already own an M05 or M05V2, then in my opinion this is the one to get (otherwise you can upgrade your M05/M05V2 to the "R" spec easily). The "R" version has pretty much everything you'd want for a race ready vehicle in one package. That is a good deal, $180ish shipped from Tower. I'd recommend this for your first M05- car. Thoughts are this is a good car, I can't really think of anything you'd want to do to this. You may want to try playing w/ a different diff in the front -to get it tighter ...but not really necessary (and would only matter if your racing it).

The M05 class of vehicles are under-geared in my opinion, I think the stock and largest pinion you can use is the 21t. You can go smaller but not larger in size, ...not sure why anyone would want to go smaller though. So your pretty much stuck w/ the 21t pinion as your only option. -That pinion comes in the kit.

Do you plan on racing this car or bashing?
Just curious.

Pinion choice is 16, 18, 20 in 0.6mod pitch unless you use a 3Racing speed gear set (not recommended as the quality is not great) in which case you can go 20, 22, 24 I think. An M05v2R will have almost everything on it already and what it doesn't have you don't really NEED anyway. It's a solid choice. If you find the rear a little lively consider the rear aluminium suspension plate, it adds some stabilising toe-in and is quite heavy too which really calms the back down.

yeah, sorry I thought it was 21, ...but couldn't recall offhand. In most cases you'll not want to go down (in my opinion). The kit comes w/ the 20pinion.

Agreed. There is no point to going to an 18 or 16.

I'm dusting off my mini to give it another go this winter. I know it's been mentioned before, but could I please get a list of parts trees to convert my M05 v1 into an M05 V2?

If you use coupon code 014G2 you'll save $40 rather than $23.

You only need the A tree and the v2 motor mount plate for the core conversion. If you want the droop screws too you'll need the new arms as well, not sure which part tree.

On the subject of the new R kit, does anyone have experience with the big bore dampers from this kit? I've got them on my M03 with 35wt Associated oil and they feel very over damped. I think the white piston holes are too small, and the black pistons are a smaller outer diameter so probably won't fit well. Are there other piston options?

Bashing, since all tracks are far from me. The reason why I was considering the pro race, is because I am the type that would upgrade forever, but wants to save money. So value and performance are important.

I ended up spending about the same amount of dollars on the xv-01 hop-ups compared to the kit price. I should have just got the TC version to begin with.

Is there a way to make the 3racing motor mount work?
