Does anyone know what weight the Tamiya m-chassis hop up springs are? I've got red and yellow and want to be able to cross reference to other brands.

Depends which one you've got. The 104 was good down to 23, maybe 20 turns.

Which hop up springs? They've made so many versions!

Spring Rating [lb/in]

These ones are TC length, but usable.
Purple 22.72
Gray 20.91
White 14.82

Never seen this in a set.
White Short 17.24 (53633)

Short touring car spring set. "Dull" colours..
Blue Short 15.27
Yellow Short 13.24
Red Short 12.90

Touring car spring set. Fluoro colours. 53333 (short, but not as short as the ones above)
Blue 14.08
Yellow 13.33
Red 11.86

These, as far as I know, are comparable to the short touring car spring set. Maybe a little firmer)
TRF 84117 M chassis white set
TRF 42168 M chassis black
TRF 47314 M chassis mica blue

OK, I wasn't aware there was several types. All I know about these is they are the genuine Tamiya hop-up springs for the M-chassis. I'll do some more digging.

If they came in a set of red/blue/yellow and they're fairly bright in colour, they're most likely the 53333 set.

These are a black spring, with a small dab of colour painted on to indicate the spring. I've used 3 racing springs before too, but I cannot find any info on the weight of the spring, so it makes comparisons tricky.

So for the tamiya m05....I do not recommend a blitz RS1 body. Mounted like absolute crap. The wheel bases are off of the arches and everything. It is just terrible....what body's come with pre drilled holes or are a reputable company that fit nice?

Many racers I have come across have had positive experiences with Blitz RS1.

If you are looking for something that is easy to cut and mount, I would recommend Tamiya bodies, like the new Miata.

My body of choice for the past couple years has been the Ride Subaru BRZ. Very easy to cut/mount.

Ya it's weird my wheels are like tucked in weird. Measured the holes nice and everything. It's just maybe 4mm too long and I've swapped the wheel base. I'll use it and see how it is because I tinkered and got it to fit without rubbing I think so it might not be so bad after said and done.

Thanks Franko, but if you're not first, you're last.

LoL

I run the medium wheelbase on that subaru body. But it can also accept a short wheelbase.

RS1 should fit easily, with loads of room to spare in the wheel wells. I found it pretty easy to set up.

On the one pictured below, I've got 7mm wheel hexes, slammed the body down using M03 front body mounts on the rear and lopped off 5-10mm from the bottom edge of the shell. Wheels still tuck in perfectly.

Fitting shells can be tricky and frustrating. I've screwed up a few.

See my back wheels are weird. There's lots of room for the wheels but the whee wells didn't line up in the back when the fronts did. I just cut some more out because good chance it breaks anyways and I'm learning still. Might try the Subaru body next. Do body posts bend easily? Wondering if that's my issue maybe?

I just bought a Mazda Miata M05 ($85 from Tower!). I'm going to run it in front of the house or in parking lots but no plans to race it. I'm thinking that I will add oil shocks (Tamiya, 3Racing?) and maybe just a Sport Tuned motor. Any suggestions additional items that I should buy right away (bearings of course)?

Also, is the Tamiya 53619 Mini Shock Unit the correct oil shocks for this?
