No need to give you a hard time granpa, you made the Amain, you made the show ..... A few unfortunate crashes kept you from a podium finish, and it seemed that you were losing some power at the End of each main..... Just a few things to straighten up, and you'll make top three consistently... Keep up the good Work, and I am still reading this thread eventhough I don't post here as much as before....lol....

Which car was yours Bob? Who was driving what appears to be a red/yellow coupe and said "dammit" a lot?

Thanx, but driving talent will keep me about where I presently am. I had a faster set up, but it was harder to drive. Opted for a little more conservative one that I could hold together for 5 min.

Mine was the all red Swift that was running near the back. Dave Weir had the Coupe. I heard he got involved in a couple of tangles. I got punted to the rear of the field in the first and third mains. Had a good clean run in the second, worked up to fourth, but didn't have the pace to keep Jason and Kevin behind me so let them go by.

Great fun, but those 8 min. mains are really tough.

10 minute mains would be epic with a mini!

Several years ago, we did a 12hr enduro with mini's at (Now-Defunct) SIR. Still probably the most fun I've had racing.

10 minute mains ARE epic! if you're leading you have to be super consistent and if you're behind you have plenty of time to make a move!

thank goodness for newer lighter radios 10 minutes with a M11 was rough!

Granpa,
I have the Hudy and XXX Main touring car set up books to help with my 417.
Does that info transfer over to the front wheel drive M05?
Thanks

ncpanther, I can tell you that is a big fat negative! I found that out the hard way. But thanks to many here in the thread got my head on straight in the realm of the mini.

Some of it does and some of it is just backwards. My background is TC primarily with X-rays and Tamiya TC. This in my case delayed my progress with Minis cause I had to unlearn before I could learn. It was very confusing cause what worked before did not work with the Minis, but enough did that it was hard to let go of what I knew. Hope that made sense.

It's probably better to let go of your TC set up books and write your own Mini book. You'll probably progress much faster. The M05 and the 417 are as different as men and women. What makes one happy can just p--s the other one off. You even have to drive them differently. The cars, not the people.

Sorry, I actually meant next Wednesday, oops!

I'll post my base-setup afterwards. Should be close as it sits, but we'll see.

There was some talk about fitting the rear carbon shock tower and the M06 suspension ball shaft #54296 to the M05. It gives you a wide range of options and may be an advantage. Since this was before the Nats, I was only able to get to it this past week.

It was not just a bolt on the shock tower and fit the suspension pin conversion. The rear shocks on the MWB car need to be lengthened to at least 58mm by removing some of the internal spacers. I can't tell you how many cause my shocks are the TRF TC shocks. The top shock ball was put in the second hole from the outside of the shock tower. The rear suspension felt much stiffer than in the stock positions.

It turned what was a sweet handling M05 into an evil, ill handling piece of doodoo. The main problem was it was really "twitchy". I could not turn a single clean lap with it. Not everything was bad though cause when I could get a decent corner entry, it carried better corner speed. It seems to have the potential to be a useful mod, but be forewarned, it's going to take some work and some rethinking about what makes a Mini work.

I have a number of ideas to get the Mod to work. I won't share them cause I haven't the foggiest on whether they work or not. If I'm going the wrong way, I don't want to lead anyone else down some rat hole. If they work, I'll post them.

When I run the M06 lower link I lengthen the shock by using the longer ball connector from the 58193 V Parts bag.
