I'm keeping one M03 set up for the Tamiya tires and one for the Shimizus. It's too bad cause on the old S-Grips the set ups were nearly identical.
What PN Shimitzu?

They make 4 different compounds. #456, 454, 452, and 450. The larger the number, the harder the compound. When you assemble them, do them one pair at a time and label what they are. Once out of the bag, it's nearly impossible to tell them apart.

Here's a bit more info on the tires, that may be helpful. The safest combo to run is the 456 in front and the 452 in the rear. Another combo is the 454 in front and 452 rears, but you do have to cyano the 454 if you use them in front. The 450 is a bit too soft and only seems to work when track temps are cool cause they turn to s--t when it gets hot.

Use the Tamiya #53255 hard inner sponge as the insert. Make sure you contact cement the ends together. Since I always look to save a few $$$$, use the #51394 11spoke rim. The Suzuki rims are 3 or 4 bucks more. I'm told that PS makes a one piece insert for these tires, but can't comment cause I've never used them. The insert that comes with the tire is probably too soft, but again I've never used those either.

This is what I've found with the tires at the Tamiya USA track. They are much more forgiving to little driving mistakes. I've run 10 or more laps where lap times were covered by 0.2 tenths from the fastest to the slowest. Also have run 5 or 6 laps, one after the other in identical times. Frankly, I'm just not that good a driver. Also, you can go from the new S-Grips to the PS tires with no changes. You cannot expect to go from the PS to the Tamiya tires and get the same handling. With the old S-Grips you could go back and forth but not now. The PS tires are a few tenths slower, but for me are just much more "fun" to use.

Please note that these are my observations and experiences only and don't dispute the findings of others. I do all the set up work on S-Grips and fit the PS tires for fun. Also, I've never tried to optimize a car for the PS tires.

More info than you asked for, but hope this helps. I believe TQ and Speedtech have them.

Craig, Just a heads up HT is going to in the next series limit tire choices to just Tamiya brand tires. As that is what they keep on hand for us mini guys and to keep the playing field level. I was told this by Justin last friday after one of the other mini drivers was inquiring and asked me to check.

I took a look at the PS one piece inserts. TQ had some in stock and were noticably softer than the Tam#53255.

I have a base setup that should work, my first carpet race will be next Wednesday, I'll post it after a good shakedown.

Default Battery HELLp needed.

I'm sure I've seen some roundcase lipo batteries with tube connectors somewhere but can't find anything on the net. I think they were branded I
as "IP" but not sure. Any ideas anybody. I know LRP and Team Orion used to make some but that was a while ago now and neither seem to do them anymore.

Integy carries the IP, as well as A Main Hobbies (re-branded under their own name). I haven't had good luck with either as the batteries have puffed within a few months.

All taken with Pivothead glasses, so the action follows the #3 qualifier, but you also get some good looks at the Top 2 contenders as well.

Tread pattern is similar, but the sidewall looks different. Doubt they're the same

Actually, in my case, better luck wouldn't have helped much. Some driving talent would have been much better. Missed a bit on the set up, but didn't have the "guts" to change it.

If you were trying to give me a hard time for not winning, I must tell you, where I finished was just about the best I could do. In fact I was pretty proud of my performance. At 77 years of age, you don't win much. Mainly cause the reflexes have slowed a bit and the eyesight isn't as sharp as it should be. Now days, I'm just happy to be there, still make it up to the drivers stand, and turn marshall, albeit a little slowly.

And I don't mind taking a little "heat" cause my sense of humor hasn't faded. I get a lot worse from the Mini Mafia.
