How do the "high speed" gears work with the stock motor? do you lose to much bottom?
Would you recomend the renforced gears?

All I want is to build the most bullet prof car I can, less break downs the better.

Not sure where you got your info from, but the Alpine has always been SWB. The original kit (58168) was SWB, as is the newer one on the 05RA.

Stock black "reinforced" gears. The white speed gears are okay (even if badly moulded), but Tamiya's current gears can't be beat.

So how much does it add to the wheelbase? looking to get around 200mm to fit some different bodies...they probably wont let me run it like that though.

Just bought my first Mini

I really wanted a "new" one to build and call my own but I just couldn't pass up the deal. Got an M-05 with a ball diff, bearings, CF steering, new touring slicks, stock tires, tekin esc, sport tuned 540, futaba servo, new old Camero body.

All for $115 shipped

now I just need a stock 540 j motor.

The first one is the Johnson part number. The second is the Tamiya part number. They're more than likely the same thing if they're both current, although while the Tamiya pn doesn't change, what Johnson supplies them sometimes does. EG: Last year, Johnson started supplying motors that ran faster out of the box than TCS rules allowed for.

well I looked for the 4vent hole motor, but no luck...and now I dont think it is going to matter all that much, don't want to have any advantage...even if my driving is handicaped

oh and after closer inspection of the pics of my M05 its not a tekin(just a sticker), its just a tamiya teu-101bk
