A heads up for those of you who might order the Tamiya rear aluminum damper stay mount (54326) to replace the fragile kit part. RC Mart and a a few other sites fail to mention that you need the carbon damper stay (54300) to go with it.

The plastic kit part can be made to work with judicious use of a Dremel, but it'll make you grouchy and covered with plastic dust. Not me, though. I'm a flippin' ray of sunshine.

I was wondering if any of the guys racing at West Coast RC are using the 3Racing gearset that allows taller gearing options for the M05 Pro. I got a set and was looking for feedback on perfoirmance prior to use.

They're illegal. WCRC Tuesday mini races are tcs spec gearing(20t pinion) and stock spur/trans gears. 3 racing aluminum bling parts (steering rack, uprights, heat sinks, etc...)are ok.

I need help with my M05 pro. Want to run it at TQraceway and WCRC. Ball diff or spool? 60D tires or sweeps? I am using savox 1251. How much steering travel for the mini?

i just wanted to pop in and say hi.

i've had my mo3 mini for a couple of years but have only run it in the street. my main thing up until now has always beed 2wd mod buggy, but my local shop is now running a carpet oval on thursday evenings and i'm trying to get a mini class going.

i've read through rc-mini.net, what a wealth of knowledge.

i'm going to start with a black can and a teu-101 esc, some 60d's and a new body and go from there.

sweep 40's and 33's are good for tq and wcrc. Tires for west coast are a never ending challenge becsause the grip levels change drastically from practice to race time. Lately I have had pretty good success there with the Ride "inch up" tires/wheels, but having all 4 compounds can get pricey. sweeps are smaller diameter so you lose a little top speed on the long straight at west coast but they work good on the infield.

Ta03 ball diff with ceramic bearings is the ticket, build per instructions.
I set my steering up for maximum throw without driveshaft binding(suggest running Tamiya cv's instead of the stock dogbone setup) and use my radio to trim back epa and speed as needed.

Also, Minis are sensitive to your driving style. I'm super aggressive so my set up may not fit you at all. I rarely will drive other peoples cars, cause they feel too "twitchy" for me. However, with that being said, the Mini set up at WCR defies conventional logic. Set your car up soft in front and stiffer in the rear for the spring rates. Put your ride height down on the deck. Other than that, you'll need to experiment to find something that fits you.

Y'know, I dislike NASCAR and most other forms of oval racing, but running minis on an oval is a blast. We've run oval night several times this year and it never fails to entertain.

The m05 I got used came with a spool. When would a spool be good to use for a mini? Anyone know where I can get a tao3 ball diff locally in socal?

i can't stand most forms of circle track, except for dirt oval. but racing a mini on any track is fun.

what kind of tires would you guys run on carpet?

i got a set of m-grips and hard inserts on the way.
i also have a pair of ride slicks on the front currently, but after reading through rc-mini i figured m-grips to be a good starting point.

I usually run a harder front/softer rear combo as is usually suggested. I've found when running oval it's best to have a little understeer, as I generally keep it pinned all the way around. If you let off a little the front end will still bite and get you around. Be sure to rotate tire l-r between races. Also, watch out, because the outside tires are going to get grabby at around 4 minutes!
