Got snowed out today. I didn't get to run my new car...

Hey Seaball, just wondered how you got on with the Atlas at the weekend?

Did my first big meeeting with mine and finished mid-table, definetely a combination of driver error, bad luck and more driver error!! the car was right on the pace, and held up well to a few bad hits. I'm very happy with it, a bit more work and it'll be great!

Any chance of a few close-ups on the ulkheads with the purple polished off? What heatsinks are you using to space the motor out with?

hey john - i did not do so well with the atlas this past weekend. managed to run in the a main, but i did not like the car. it seemed to be lacking aggressiveness in the turn in, and had too much exit steering. it wanted to take a spiral path. i'm mostly to blame for it, as i set the car up to be that way??? i wasn't sure what type of wieght balance the car would have, so i set the arms back and used the outside ackermann holes, and ran 0* toe in the rear ot ensure i'd have enough steering. i'm sure the toe was to blame for most of it. and believe it or not, i didn't even think to change rear toe all day!!! i'm not used to having that as a tuning option as the rclab never needed it. alot of these guys are running minimal or no toe here on ozite. i should have started with a setup that planted the car and worked from there. oh well, i've got alot to play with here. just bumms me out it may be two weeks before i get to play with it again.

i'll take some close ups if you like. the motor shims are nothing more than the 1/8" aluminum washers that i had around. what a pain trying to stack two washers for each screw in there. if i continue to space the motor i'll grab some large 1-1/4 inch alum ones and drill them out. with the electronics arranged like i had posted earlier and the motor shimmed out, the car was still 5-10g heavier on the battery side with umh cells. also about dead even f/r. stay tuned for pics.

jaco = plaid/purple at 2.250
springs = trinity congo purples f/r (had to move to congo yellows up front to settle the rear)
oil = assoc 70wt with the #5 three hole pistons..
surface = ozite medium bite.

and i need two delrin diffs, but i'll likely find some other brand to fit. it's a great price, but i think i'd like to start fresh on those. i dunno.

i also run on ozite, in stock.
Im running the stock blue springs with 60wt oil. We run rubber though. I generally run sorx 24s at all 4. I run the front slightly lower than the back. This deffinitely yields oversteer, and can make it want to loop, but i generally like a setup like this. When you dont want the back to slide, you just have to very smooth on the wheel, and straighten the fronts out and finish the corner as fast as possible to get back to full throttle. This also forces you to make the corner as smooth as possible. Even on 180degree turns i dont think I go much below half throttle, maybe quarter throttle. What i like most about this, is I can slide the back to square off a corner in a tight situation. Or come into a corner way to fast to duck under somebody...

Ive been wanting to try a slightly stiffer spring, but ive had pretty good luck with the stock. Ive never heard of the trinity springs. How does their length compare to atlas springs?

My next parts order will be directly to atlas. Integy PISSED ME OFF. I was ordering springs, alum dogbones and some spares. It should not be as hard as it is to by parts from them, or anybody. The first order went pretty good, but it took over a week to get it. After waiting 2weeks for the 2nd order i decided to email them to make sure they got the fax, I fax orders to them. Well, they havent answered my email and its been about 4 days. I have been ordering motors, batterys and other parts from them for years, off and on... Ive had it now though...

Angry Help

I am having these problems too. Could it be that my drag rods are setup in the inside of the bellcranks? the knucklearms just have play when in full to almost full steering, specially the inside one.

Guys, i need help on a few things.

well speak of the devil, i got my order from integy today..

Like I said earlier I was looking for a stiffer spring so i ordered a set of the light blue springs (1.4x6) and the stock springs are blue (1.4x5.75) right? Well I cant hardly tell if the lightB springs are any stiffer than the stock blue springs. They appear to have the same coil length, so i miced the coils and the lightB springs come out a few 1/1000ths of an inch thicker... talk about tuning springs... 1.4x6 should be stiffer than 1.4x5.75 right?

My next prob, is I must of forgot to order a set of diff rings, cuz i didnt get any. Are there rings by any other manufactures that will work? I found a set of HPI rings that fit on the diff-halves, but they are not large enough for the diff gear.

On a side note...
I also got a V10R motor to play with. Right out of the box it was way fast on the dyno. About 2-3000 RPMs higher across the board than some of my best stock motors.

hey that matrix can definately rip. i dunno about the rings just yet, but i think you may have a problem with the springs. given the same overall length, wire diameter and material. the spring with less coils is going to be stiffer. just run losi or yoks from your lhs. trinity's work well too, but are super stiff. they are right about 1.0" long i think. i love them. i'm trying to get the blue ones, but nobody has any left. trinity doesn't make them anymore from what i understand. what are the kit springs rated at? i have them, but they seem way to soft with jacos on.

Atlas aprings should be from light to heavy white-lt. blue-blue-purple. If you cant find Atlas springs or whatever, Losi springs are good. Look for around 12-15lbs to be close to blue or purple Atlas.

I was interpreting the spring ratines wrong I guess...

I tried a set of asc springs but they seem to be too small. The shock bottoms would snap in, but i couldnt get the spring over the shoulder of the spring keeper.

Here is the page on integys site with the spring ratings.
atlas parts

I was thinking the second number in their rating system was the thickness of the wire. Maybe its the number of coils...

I think I might have some losi springs laying around... I was hoping to find somebody else that makes diff rings that would work. I dont really want to put another order into atlas for just diff rings, unless i can think of something else i need. I've been wanting to place an order to atlas to get purple alum dogbones and swaybar holders.

Just flip the adjusters over and butt the spring up against the flat side.

the link in my last post is to www.integy.com
they carry most of the parts for the atlas line.

You can also order directly from atlas.
http://www.miwahobby.co.jp/index.html

I use to order parts for my 414 from japan, and would usually get them the same week, if placed monday or tuesday. The last order to integy in the states took just under 2 weeks. I have not ordered directly from atlas yet.
