turned out to be the wrong metal shaft pins inside the black and white gear wheels
to narrow so they caused the play
replaced them with the correct pins : there's much less slack now.
however there still is a very small amount of slack now... aahh ... tamiya plastic

I know there have been several posts about this car on carpet, and I was just curious what everyone's thoughts are on a spool vs. the gear diff? If you prefer the gear diff, what weight oil do you like to run? I currently am running a gear diff in the front with 50k oil. Seems to have a ton of steering, it's controlable, but twitchy.

120k/300k/500k front diff. 500k or Putty will make that front diff a perfect balance between Ball Diff & Spool...

Thanks man, I'll give the thicker fluid a try first, I was kinda thinking the front was still a bit too loose.

In that photo above the screw came out of the bottom of the chassis, it screws into the steel insert you can see right next to the esc. There is a second screw that also goes in from the bottom (near the motor) that the esc plate is pivoting on to access the battery. These screws can be seen in the photo of the bottom of the chassis (toward the top of the chassis).

thanks guys, it is a bit of a pain removing them screws on the bottom all the time for me, because i had 6 NiMH packs when i got this chassis, and i don't wanna go LiPo just yet....

Just curious, because I want to keep the 06 TCS legal, how much stiffer than stock is the Carbon Reinforced chassis? I would think it has to help limit the factory flex at least some.
