That's gonna be some FAST VTA stuff!
Hope they will allow big rear wings!

This I know and has me worried about handling. Track owner just didn't want to have guys buy "special" equipement as opposed to stuff they already had.

I had no idea the TA06 used these special .6 mod gears... In fact I didn't even know they existed until now. I have been doing a search for them but am only finding Novak set .6 14t/15t/16t is highest at A Main Hobbies...

Red yes I have temp gun, also the setting car for my ESC can tell me the max temp. But the temp gun seems more practical. Looking at the chart the came with the TA06 to get 5:1 I would be having to use a 29T and even larger to get 4.5:1

Like you said, I may need to get a few pinions to test. Would you recommend I get 25T, - 29T ? (5 pinions)

I almost always switch to 64p, if nothing else, just for availability, every hobby shop carries the pinions, and more times than not, they have a spur that will work just fine. The .06 mod works fine, but being only used by Tamiya and HPI, it's a bit harder to find if your in a pinch.

Is there a conversion chart online or a formula to figure out the conversion?

the formula from the manual say:

(Spur T / Pinion T) X 2.17 :1

What is the 2.17 constant? is that the cars internal ratio ?

Yep, that's the internal fixed ratio (pulley/belt and rear diff/idler gears)

Yes, it's the transmission ratio. Basically I just had a calculator and started doing the formula with various spur/pinion sizes untill I got close.

I wish there was a chart, but I haven't been able to find one.

What's your track look like? Lots of straight a ways, lots of hairpin turns?

Do you go full throttle to full brakes, or is the speed more constant?

Ours is a indoor carpet 40'x40' I believe, tight and technical and we will use 10.5/13.5 motors

For that setup, I'd probably start with:
27t pinion for 13.5 (this is my current set up, with 3600kv D3 13.5 )
26t pinion for 10.5 (4200kv) If your kv rating is slower, then go up a tooth.

Nobody likes to have a bunch of gears in their pit box that aren't being used....but remember, a couple pinion gears are a lot cheaper than buying a couple new motors! (because they burned up!)

$5 or $10.....vs........$65~$100. Besides, someone at your track will likely need one at some point.......I'm constantly selling my extra pinions!

This is crazy...I'm quoting myself......anyway, also depends on your throttle control, if you like getting on the throttle, then do smaller a tooth, and you will have better throttle feel on the lower end and better acceleration.

Really, have to try a few different gears to find out.

Thank you so much for your help! I totally agree about the extra pinions but i will be the only one using these 06 Mod Pinions as everyone else will be running 48 or 64 pitch...

For now.......(I thought the same at first), but, other people will be buying a car after they see yours, and they will be in the same "boat" and be needing gears to try.
