How free is the transmission with the belt/gearbox combo? How well does it keep up with the higher end touring cars in the 17.5 class?

I thought its a interesting car and might be capable of keeping up in the 17.5 and 13.5 type blinky classes that the tracks around my area offer.

It will keep up, but it's not a world beater by any means. the drivetrain isn't the most free in the world, but the rear gearbox creates some hellatious launches. The snap is unreal off the line. I mostly ran mine in the VTA class, and made the A main every time I entered. Our 17.5 class is stacked with sponsored drivers, national champs, etc. So to make the A with that car was fun.

Thanks. I always like taking that are not suppose to be really good and making them competitive. I migth get one for a 2nd car and then add the Exotek chassis setup for it. Or make a VTA car. All the places our hobbyshop orders from the kits I'm looking at are not in stock. Go figure as I decide to race touring after 4 years and I can't find exactly what I want and I hate waiting.

please let us know your results in running mod.

I was advised not to do mod with this chassis with box plastic parts. but i am really curious of how capable this car is.

I have the RSector RS6 chassis upgrade so I think it would handle the motor

hey guys, I'm hoping that some out there is able to help me, i have recently got my hands on a ta04. Setup for drift, going to purchase a novak 13.5t drift combo. Need help with gear ratio (48p) or even final ratio ball park as i want to be able to wring the neck out of it with temps staying cool( 50-60) if possible. Second question i have .... it was suggested by someone at the track that i get a one way diff for the front. Can i by pass getting the full diff and just replace the drive gear with a one way front drive gear as i am finding them easier to get my hands on and like having both diffs locked. reaching out as the onroad cars are new to me. Have been racing off road for just over a year now guys at our track have seen this car and are telling me i'm crossing over to the dark side. I know it's older then most hence 13.5 to be a bit friendly as opposed to a 8.5 or lower.

Thinking of getting a (cheap, ie not the a700) IFS car for running 17.5 and so I can run those cool low-nose tamiya shells. Does anyone know which IFS geometry is better or easier to set up? The TA06, ta06 w/ exotek or ta05ifs?

Hi guys.

A month ago i bought mine TA06 pro. The first time i drove the car on the track i thought by myself: What a good handling car! But it rained heavy that day and fried my speedcontroller so my testing was a bit short. Last weekend i had my first race with the car
in the Dutch Tamiya Challenge, GT Class with TRF 417,s and i manage to get third overall !!! With the standard out of the box car. Okay it was a bit loose in the rear when the temp went up but still it was very easy to drive but it wont hurt a bit to get a stabi set for the car and hop it up for the next season. i hope anyone can give me some good tips about wich hop ups are good to buy and wich arrent.

I will let u know about future results!!!

Cya!!

Your front wheels will be turning faster than the rear

Default What FDR for 17.5 without overheating?

RE: TA06 final drive ratio

I've skimmed the posts and it seems that most people are running an FDR about 4.0 in 17.5. Any of you having success without thermal problems ?

I'm running a Viper VTX10 and their 17.5. My original gear choice was a 96 spur and a 51 pinion for an fdr of 4.085. I ran with no motor timing and no boost. On a typical, hot 90 deg day, I was only able to put down about 8-9 laps before thermal protection kicks in.

Next I tried gearing down to 96/49. Still overheating. Car seems fine. I don't have any particular drivetrain binding that I can notice. However, it is not as free as my TB03, but that is expected with a belt drive setup right?

My speed on the long straight was already a bit slower than I'd like so I'd prefer not to keep gearing down.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I run my TA06 in VTA, which means a 25.5 motor.
I couldn't even run it with a 4.0 without it getting really hot.
With the design of the TA06 there is not really any airflow around the motor.
They give you a nice place to mount a cooling fan though.
Put a decent fan on top of it and you should be fine though.
