Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a 17.5 brushless esc/motor combo to run stock/GTA class with my Tamiya TB03 and TA06. I have been waiting for my LHS to re-stock the Speed Passion Cirtix 17.5 combo but have just about given up waiting.

Any recomendations on an alternative 17.5 system that FITS my TB03 and TA06 without major cutting? (For example, I have heard that the new Novak Club Sport motors don't fit but I am not sure.)

I already searched the forums but did not find any recent posts.

Hey Paul,

I run the Novak Edge 2s in my 06, with it's small size it fits well.
As far as a motor goes, you CAN run the novak motors, but there are two things that must be done first:

1. The tabs on the Novak motors are bent at the very end. VERY CAREFULLY, take a pair of pliers and gently straighten the tabs out, this will give extra clearance. Most brushless motors have this clearance problem, but the novak motors are one of the few with the tabs bent.

2. To fit the motor flush against the motor plate, you must dremel some material from the left hand upper chassis brace (The one the motor tabs are closest to).

In the pic I attached, you'll see the amount of material I had to remove. Tamiya will be realeasing a milled aluminum brace with the cutout already there, but I'm not sure when we will see those. Saw it on the Japanese site, so who knows.

Tamiya 50892 is the silver/gray version that comes with the Sumo Power kit.
It appears to be discontinued though.
Tamiya 53336 is the same wheel in black if you can't find the others in stock anywhere.

so replacing the plastic heat sink mount with alum. Stiffer for the only screw fastening the front. GREAT!

plus... A brass weight to make the cow heavier!

the brass weight would be useful in the TAC races since we only use Tamiya's LiFe batteries... that coupled with a LW body will greatly reduce the weight well below the minimum 1500g's. Given how hard it is to look for places to add lead weight blocks, the brass plate would be ideal (added weight placed very low).

got my pro kit in, now if I build it with all the options, which will cost almost 300 plus dollars, will it be competitive with the 417s, tc6.1s, xray t3 2012, as the cost will be equal to these cars, I am not te greatest driver but i also believe in starting with a good foundation, so that being said, I love the design of the car, but if it is not as quick as the others then no point in dumping money into it and I can just start with a 417 instead, any comperision with someone who has both cars can let me know thanks

Normally it's better to have only those option parts that will give you the best performance/value.
Such as alu suspension mounts, carbon damperstays, a set of stabilizers and the alu steering.
Those are the most importand options to have on your car, but that's just my opinion.
It's better to start from there then spending a lot of money on option parts where you perhaps don't see the difference in performance.
The car does have a lot of potential but in the end the TRF417 is still a little bit faster, if it has the right setup.
