Yup, several people do well with them. The tricky part is gearing when using a 25.5 motor. You basically just need a huge pinion.

Yea, I can't say I was ever beat by a guy that has a bigger C rating on their battery. Usually my losses comes with hitting a wall.

Absolutly, When we are that close in speed and power crashing at all will put you back a few places.

I find that the top 3 guys are a freight train around the track but it gets exciting when the front guy crashes as the 4th or 5th spot can become first really fast.

There was a long debate on this earlier in this thread. A few did testing with different C rating batteries and found no difference due to the amount of draw from the 25.5 motors. Another reason this class is great. As long as the rules are followed its all set up and driver and thats it, keeping racing close and fair.

C ratings don't matter that much. I did the math once to figure the average amp draw of a VTA car and came up with less than 15 amps or in other words, 3C on a 5000 pack. The only place it's a factor is the momentary surge you need under hard acceleration and I doubt that any of our cars exceed 125 amps or 25C. Point is, if you have at least a 25C 5000 pack, you are competitive. Any more is just throwing $$$ at something that you could better spend on track time for practice and tuning your suspension. I have several 25C packs that are very competitive and have won plenty of races for me. There really isn't a need for a rule here.

P.S. By the time I finished typing this, there are already a half dozen responses echoing the same thing. So yeah, what they said!

I agree about the C rating, but as time goes by the 5200, 5400 and 6000 + packs are getting cheaper. A local racer recently bought a Revtech 6000 for $60. So not now, but as more of these packs get cheaper and as lower capacity packs get harder to find, I would like to see the mah limit raised. I think the point was to keep expensive packs out. I see no advantage to running a bigger pack when I am only burning out about 1100 mah of power, so it should stay fair no matter what size you run. Or we could go for smaller packs with the same capacity. They would be easier to strap into some of the older cars with room for wieght.

Heck... I thought about getting a very small pack. I'm only burning about 650 mah in 5 minutes. Might be worth it to pick up a 1600 or 2200, save some weight. But then you run into balance issues, since most of the older chassis are designed around an old heavy Nimh pack.

but you need to consider the min weight requirement for the class (1550g) - unless your track doesn't follow that so strict.

you might be saving weight with the smaller, ligher pack - but you'll need to make up for the weight loss by other means...Personally, I'd rather have the weight in the pack and use less 'stick-on weights' then use a lighter pack and have to put more weights on my car..

My cyclone TC needed over 100g to meet the min weight, and I think that put me at 1551 or 1552 - legal, but a little too close for my liking...I'm almost afraid what my TCX will need once I finish getting that all setup

For me the idea of using a smaller pack has nothing to do with saving weight. Its all about realestate, and getting my fat fingers in there with the strapping tape. You still have to use weights, but now you have room for them.

I quite enjoy going to a Race and not having to charge at all.

2 qualifyers and a 10 min Main and I only put back 3000 mah into my 5000

Our last race day was four qualifiers and an eight minute main. At a little over 1100 mah per qualifier I cant quite make a full race day on one 5000 pack. Of course we usually only run three qualifiers, but I think that is cutting it pretty close.

We should start a petition to switch it to 10 min heats and 15 min mains for next year. (or some other time variation) Since the battery is no longer a limiting factor, why not? I'd rather race a little longer anyway.

Do it locally and see how it works out. If it does well you might get Rob to take a look at it. I think the length of the race is more of a local format anyway.

I think that if longer races work for you, go for it. Really, the race times were set to make people race longer races than what was standard, so why not?

As far as the capacity limit, it's possible that may be changed in the future. Right now, we're going to stand on what we have however.
