More 25.5 testing....
This time we opened up the course to increase speeds and let the RCGT cars wind out. There was a sweeper leading into the back straight followed by another sweeper. Track is only 80x32, but we utilize the space as best we can.
Fortunately we had a top notch driver show up and show us what smooth driving looks like. His handling was spot on and he turned 28 laps in the finals. Fastest lap of the day was low 10 seconds. My best lap count was 26 while working out an oversteer issue. However i was typically half a second slower during the qualifiers for my fast laps. Everyone else was in the 23 and 24 lap range.
Broke out the Havoc/25.5 combo in a TC3, 4.68 FDR, 100% VTA compliance. Handling was as great as last outing, no changes at all. Best qualifier was 26 laps and my fastest lap was low 11 seconds. One caveat though, there were only two of us on the track for these tests. Add our full compliment of racers and 25 laps is probably a more realistic number due to fender rubs and waiting for the most opportune time to pass. So, three laps less than a great driver should go a long way to dispelling the "it will be too slow and not any fun" myth.
The most interesting aspect of this week's test was that i actually felt like i was driving the car. I could take different lines, attempt to draft going down the straight, bang doors without having a car go flying over the pipes... in general, it was a great driving experience. I was incredibly focused on taking the best lines and finding the best place to pass. I actually had time to think about my lines. With RCGT, i kinda feel like i'm holding on for dear life and one bobble will send me end over end. With those kinds of speeds on our track it seems to take more instinct and reflex... or maybe that's just my lack of driving skills.
Looking forward to more people at our track getting the 25.5 for some more testing.

Hey All, just wanted to announce that our club is officially going all Vintage. I say Vintage because we'll also be adopting a Vintage Oval class. All using official VTA motor/batt rules. We're making allowances for the Pantera and Corvette bodies in VTA and Oval will be any appropriate vintage oval body of any year below 1975. I imagine we'll see mostly the Superbird, Talladega, Cyclone and Monte Carlo but I'm sure the 57 will see some action. (Not mine of course !).
It appears that we might be the only group in Florida offering VTA !!! Definitely the only one concentrating on Vintage only. Maybe that will change but I don't mind being the only child.
On that note and with some plans rolling around in my pea brain.....Are plans for next years Nationals already being made??
Has anyone thought of setting up a Regionals program ?
Any thoughts would be great. Thanks folks for supporting a great program and making VTA what rc racing should be about.
BTW, I posted these pics in the VTA paintjobs thread. Kudos to PJ Sines (pejota)for the paint on the 57'

TC3 VTA HELP
SORRY IF IN WRONG THREAD
QUESTION ABOUT USING THE HPI CAMARO BODY ON A 190MM TC3,
DO THE WHEELS WORK OUT RIGHT OR ARE THEY TOO NARROW (UNDER THE BODY) ?

Most electric tc chassis are 190mm. The Vintage wheels and tires will fit perfectly. If you want to adjust them outward a bit...you can get hubs of a different thickness to "custom' fit the look to your taste. Don't know about associated but the Losi JRXS hubs work on my XXXS. I think the TC5 might have different hubs available and I believe the Losi hubs will also fit on the TC3.

I recently acquired a brushless system to run in my club's VTA class. For the first little while I'm going to run it in my Tamiya TT01, until I find another chassis cheap. Can anyone suggest a good pinion/spur combo to start with? The stock 19/61 is slower than molasses in january. I have the 55T & 58T spur gears to work with and the pinion chart. Just wanna know what anyone else might have tried.
