Good racing tonight at Indy Slots. The best driver in the class decided to prove that you don't need the best equipment to have fun in this class. He set TQ and would have won if not for a thermal shutdown with his Novak SS and he was using a Tamiya TT-01R. The only mod he did to the car was to use a F201 spur gear and an HPI pinion so that he could make a usable FDR for 21.5/lipo. Thanks to his efforts we probably have 2 more racers hooked.
The best part is that he will happily help the local racers mod the F201 gear so that they will be able to run a competitive speed.

Looks like we'll be adding at least three more racers next week. This class is great.

At our parking lot track and with 12 -15 regular TA racers there's a mixed bag of power plants. All of them are capable of winning. It's the driver that wins not the motor combo at our place. A brushed motor on our aprox 110 foot straightaway will be geared anywhere from a 5.0 to about 5.6, so you will be in the ball park. I've noticed this past Summer that when I drop different 27turn motors in my car, all the same brand, the performance is different. I'm pretty sure that's inherent to brushed motors.

Today a track about 1 1/2 hours away had a practice day, A father and his son and myself were practicing and tinkering on our vta cars. In the last "race" we had, the son was running 17.5/4cell geared about 3.7fdr, the father was running a 27t/4cell geared about 5.4fdr and I was running a 21.5/lipo geared at 4.2fdr. We ran laps together for about 10 minutes and we hardly ever had more tha 2 seconds between us, most of the time we were bumper to bumper, door to door. The 27t/4cell car was just a tick faster on the long straight, but in the first corners after that, we were on him, and no one knew who would be in front when we came out of the in field. I can't think of any more evenly matched power options in any race. The recommended fdr's for each are spot on.

I got to introduce the V T/A to our LOCAL racers today through our Exhibition Race at the Benefit Car Show for Cancer Survivors.
The Cruzin' for Life Benefit Car Show folks are just absolutely incredible people, and this fund raising Car Show event includes not only the Car Show, but it also has a Dinner/Dance/Auction to raise money for local cancer survivors. The event also has a 'Open Header' car cruise in which the MAJOR Downtown street is closed for a few hours while the car show participants cruise through downtown (With police escorts)
For the 2nd straight year, I was invited to bring out local group of R/C races out to put on a nice exhibition event to add entertainment to the event, and bring local awareness to the r/c hobby.
Our track today was just a short OVAL (approx 80 - 90 ft run line) but we ran mostly the V T/A cars...and for the MAIN event we pulled off a 200 lap 11 car race that kept the crowd watching cheering on the racers.
NEXT Week we will add the V T/A to our regular Local race running them on the ROAD COURSE.

I've thought about gettng a TT01 just for this point

The racer at Indy Slots was using a TT-01R with what I'm pretty sure was the original Novak Super Sport brushless esc without a fan on the speed control or a heat sink/fan on the motor. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the original SS esc has a relatively low point at which it will go into thermal shutdown and really should be run with a fan. I should have been more specific in my earlier post about this point. This is the first time running this class that any racer has had a thermal shutdown in an 8 minute main and we've seen some racers over-gearing for the track and hitting motor temps over 170 degrees farenheit. I should also add that he was using the Tamiya carbon upper frame to add a little extra stiffness to the car. Alright, I got my Xray T1R tonight, and I've already got a Novak GTB 4 Cell speedy. Do you guys figure the ESC will hold up without overheating?
The only other guy I know of that's putting together a USVTA car and I have agreed to just run sealed silver cans for now.

just remember guys the MMC race in nashville oct 5th you can run 4cell
and the way I figure it an unlimited 4cell gear ratio will make the 4 cell guys faster then the 6 cell guys running the gear ratio locked to slow them down. I've been waiting for someone to try it. plus as we don't treat the track with anything 4cell gives you less wheel spin.
