I will be at my first VTA race this weekend. This class is all about fairness. The bodies I have seen on the track are cool.
You're invited to come race with us sometime. We've been at it the longest in the area and we're glad to share anything we've learned.

okay Im back for rd 2....

pretty big blows are being dished out today...

well he is the answer....are you sure you want it?....nah you dont...are you sure?....okay here goes...

HPI has been making this tire for a long time...longer than VTA itself and USVTA has been up and running for about 5-6 years depending on who you ask...and this thread has been around just as long...looks like a lot of history

so am saying is that a company has took care of our tire needs as well as other needs, to help along our class that we like/love so much, for so long......and they go into a mis-mgmt situation, and we as racers are up and arms about it....doesnt sound to fair to me..

plus most of you need to see what US VTA has and is doing for onroad and RC clubs across the world...its has double since last year this time...

how many tracks do you know that run US VTA, that didnt a year or two ago...how many big races that incl US VTA now that didnt last year, but is welcome it this year.....and how about the 2011 USVTA Southern Nationals in Music City USA...it had VTA racers from everywhere....racing under one roof under one set of rules...somebody help me out here...did I miss something...

we have a very special class, that is still young compared to other classes, and we are still learning, but since Sept 2010...we are dang near perfect

and for us in the Southeast...USVTA is in almost every state...and has grown from 2 or 3 tracks to almost every track...lets see what state dosent have US VTA

we do..
TN...Thunder RC, Sir Gooney, MSRA?
KY...Coyote Hobbies
AL...One Lug
GA...Hotshots,Battlefield, and Nexus?
FL..BEAR, Snowbirds
MS...MSRA...Southaven MS new track, filling station

who else

Beginners and experienced racers alike, are jumping in at a very rapid rate. The following has been attributed to a very simple formula. We have competitive cars that are 9 and 10 years old, as well as relatively new cars.

Right now, we definitely DON'T want to split the cars up into fast and slow classes, as the main appeal to this class is the speeds and the ultra competitive racing that it allows for all experience levels. There are plenty of other classes to go fast in, and that's not what this class is about right now. We all firmly believe that splitting things up only dilutes the strength of the original concept, and none of us want that. There are 19T and 13.5 classes for rubber tires and foam tires that most of us race in anyway. There is no need to make other classes smaller, when they all struggle for car counts anyway. Wouldn't you rather race against 20 cars in a main than split them up into 2 classes? Most of us would.

Our only real expansion discussion taking place right now is how to adapt brushless into this class. Some of us believe that we may follow ROAR's lead in this, or just test the 17.5 ourselves, with the potential for 21.5 on Lipos. It complicates the rules a bit, and if one has a big advantage over other formulas, it either kills the class or forces guys to go buy more stuff—which is 100% against the intent of this class.

This is real grassroots R/C racing. Wheel to wheel and bumper to bumper for laps on end, with multiple cars dicing back and forth for position. It's consistently been the biggest crowd-gathering class at any track where it is raced.

We're always open to options, but all of us currently involved do agree on one thing—K.I.S.S. The more complicated the formula becomes, the less inviting it is to all racers.

doug
good read....

I think most of us should read the thread and see some of the ups and downs that got this class going and on track

As far as the tires, I don't know what the problem is. I have just begun trying to find a date that the tires will be back again. I have seen the posts Myron has made. I am also looking into this.

As far as an alternative, I guess making the other 2 tires that are out there for the VTA rim is the option we have. There will be no rule changes, but you gotta do what you gotta do.

Granted, this doesn't solve the issue for National sanctioned events but isn't the larger percentage of our racing "club" level ??
Our club just adopted the Vintage Slick as an option tire at all times. The way i look at it is that we should allow our drivers to use a set of treaded tires until they're coming apart. We see no performance advantage using a slick tire so there's no real worry about using the D compound slicks. VTA folks are at least aware of the 'official" rules and nobody is tryiing to change that.
As for complaining to HPI....maybe we should spend more time complimenting them first !!! Like others have said...without them we don't exist. I, for one, can live with a little inconvenience 1 time in my 5 year involvement with VTA.
KUDOS HPI !!
That is what one of my local tracks is doing for now. The turn out is always good, and to have racers shelf their cars over a mm or two of tread is not a good idea. The show must go on.

Just checked all the various forms of HPI vintage rubber available at Tower Hobbies...

ALL are on order/out of stock/coming March except for the Slick Fronts.

Soooo..... i think the phrase is "embarrassment of riches?"

LOTS and lots of people are getting into VTA. And that's a good thing.

The bad thing is that tires aren't available at the moment. I know that's a glass half full approach, but the opposite is most definitely worse...

Too many tires and not enough drivers!

As far as an alternative, I guess making the other 2 tires that are out there for the VTA rim is the option we have. There will be no rule changes, but you gotta do what you gotta do.
Thank you.

Took a quick look on Ebay. The Vintage slicks are available from a small number of dealers. 24 listings for "HPI Vintage Tire" and only 1 treaded set from a Sprint 2.
Thank goodness for small excesses !! I still have 2 more new sets in my tool box.

Is it time to revisit the "Wheels and tires designated as "front" must be used as front tires/wheels, "rear" wheels/tires must used as rear" rule?

(my favorite rule revision ever )

Yeah the slicks are readily available and the treaded performance tires are out there and not too hard to find. I just got reeeeeeal lucky and found two pairs if vta fronts and four sets of rears in a hobby shop in California. Sorry guys I ordered all of the fronts and three of the rears.

Ive been texting a couple of guys at HPI, just to make sure they know how important the US VTA class needs tires...I also emailed another contact as well...and he said it at the top of his list...

so thats 4 ppl from HPI thats aware of this situation and trying to get the ball moving a little faster...Ive invited them to come on this thread and read whats the issue as well as spoke to some of them directly

lets hope we get some results....

Vette, glad you found some....cya Sat

Glad HPI seems to be interested in fixing this problem. Hopefully they will begin to participate in this thread like Novak does. It will be a welcome addition and it will be real nice to have a direct route of communication for future issues. Also glad that racers can use the alternative tires if absolutely necessary. It will go a long way to making sure we all can keep the cars on the track.

Man I'm definitely looking forward to Saturday. I haven't been able to race with you since battlefield. I'm ready for my next TN butt kicking.

I will be there hopefully with new shoes on.

Not to interrupt the drama of tires MIA, but can some people chime with an average timing and fdr for their 25.5? I believe I am a little off the pace and would feel much better in knowing which direction I should go with my motor and gearing. I am running an fdr of 3.93 and timing one mark from being maxed out on a 96 x 40 track and it feels as if my punch is lacking and my top speed is close, but not quite there. Any advise or pointers would be great. THANKS!

Gearing sounds good to me. I'm running 3.84 right now. For the punch what are your esc settings? Are you running a spool up front? The punch control in the esc and a spool will both help with corner exit torque.
