Sorry for the delay in responding. When I was getting back into RC a year ago, I picked up a TC3 as it was cheap, and electronics used here as they tend to hold their value. The idea was if I did not like it, I was only really losing money on the chassis. Of course, I enjoyed it instead, and wanted to move up to a belt drive car, and I wanted to build a kit, as that was something I really enjoyed in the old days when I used to race (RC10L, RC12L, Lynx II Elite). I wasn't yet ready to step up to a top end car, and the Sakura has a great path of upgrades. I have now taken that entire path, and have a full carbon/aluminum car with every upgrade possible, and many others not. I have enjoyed building and learning the car, making it and myself go faster and get more consistent, and recently purchased a Serpent that will soon replace the Sakura.

None of this is necessary for VTA, but it is something I enjoy, and while I will continue to work on improving my driving, I also continue to work on my equipment and my setup to squeeze every last ounce out of it.

Plus, all of my old cars have gone to new racers to get them into VTA. I have raced against 3 of my old TC3 chassis's, and I know my backup Sakura chassis (built from the parts leftover as I upgraded) just went to a new driver that will be joining us soon. I figure that is the best of all worlds, continuing to get new people into VTA and RC.

At the Snowbird Nationals the pit tables for the oval guys will have these full chassis dynos. They are only for D-drive cars and many of them are home built but they are neat anyway.

Thanks for the perspective, and +1 on the passing along the chassis to new drivers!

This is the model right here. This is how we promote the sport and bring in new racers.

Tires are an issue right now. HPI has stated that they are on back order. Both my local shops had ordered at least 15 sets both of front and rear but can not give a ETA on them. this is a shame because my fronts are starting to go bald.

Its a shame HPI has/is dropping the ball with these tires. I understand mix ups but should have been fixed by now. With as popular as this class is and their tire only 1 being used, they would make extra efforts to maintain the supply for the demand. Bad business IMO. This isnt a flash in the pan class, its paid its dues, time for manufacturers to do maintain it.

Not to let HPI off the hook but I cant think of another time when a racing class has gotten this popular and at the same time been totally dependent on one particular brand and part # tire. I am sure they are feverishly working on getting the supply caught back up.
