Not that those distributors carry them, but the Sakura Zero S, $120 retail price for a belt drive, 4wd TC with dual gear diffs. Upgrades are plentiful and cheap, and several us distributors now. Would be an awesome first VTA car (has been for many at my track, and is what I upgraded to from a TC3).
Just curious.... what made you upgrade to this car from a TC3? I thought the zero was more of an entry level ride?
Keep in mind the TC3 FT was no slouch in it's day and for VTA use it's still a very capable chassis BUT thats the beauty of VTA !! It doesn't require a new Xray to be competitive. Remember also that many of us still believe that a plastic chassis like the Zero S, Basic TC3's and TC4's, TA05, etc...may actually have an edge on parking lot tracks. Then again...I drive a Schumacher and they drive great EVERYWHERE !!

What VTA cars do Tower, or A-Main carry---not RTR, but affordable and suitable for new-comers and anyone getting into USVTA on a budget.
Our new 25.5 Club Combo would be an ideal product for some reseller to offer in combination with a car (or cars) for VTA. We do not have the resources to do the RTR-ing ourselves, but we would be willing to work with our distributors to encourage them to address this segment.
We started shipping our customized, USVTA items to distributors, beginning with our EDGE 2S items; they are now more available to LHSs around the country.

So lets add this up (something no RC racer should ever do).
Chassis - 120
Novak Club Combo - 120
Decent Servo - 40
2.4ghz TX/RX - 65
VTA Body - 20
VTA Wheels - 12
VTA Tires - 25
Total - $402.00 - This is just a rough estimate obviously and doesn't include batteries, charger, or extra gears.
I can find the HPI Sprint 2 Z28 RTR w/2.4 radio for $240, so looks like Novak needs to get HPI to start putting their combos in these kits from the start. $360 for a fully legal new car doesn't look so bad.

Right out of the box the car is very capable of running very well. A top 5 contender if you can drive. Add to that the amount of parts available and the affordable cost of those parts and you end up with a very capable chassis. I keep up with tamiya xray associated etc all day long. its only my driving that holds me back not the chassis. I am consistently in the a main and our track has a VERY competitive group of vta racers. Usually the top 5 finish on the same lap and the next 5 are one lap down in the main. And our laps are in the 12 second range. A very tight field. Its a great car especially for the price.

Sorry if this has been asked a ton of times but I haven't found a good answer in my searches yet.
Just getting my feet wet in VTA racing and I have a TC5 VTA setup on route to me now.
I have a buddy looking for a car as well.
My question is this: Is the HPI Sprint2 a good starting point for a VTA car or is one better off finding something else?
He has a couple older Losi's but I don't know if parts are around to make them work.
Thoughts from those who have been around more.

I just got a Schumacher MI4LP for VTA and it's traction rolling like crazy on high bite carpet, I glued the sidewalls but that's just a band-aid, got any suggestions?

lower ride height
lower CG if possible
raise roll center
stiffer springs
sway bars (add them or go bigger)
move the shock mounts outward on the shock towers and/or arms
thicker oil, pistons with smaller holes
less static camber (so the tires can't develop as much grip)
less caster

Thanks EVO. wife is meeting with the folks that put together the farmers market, all the major city players will be in attendance. now i just need to get with my LHS and have them start giving back. maybe some door prizes and such and call a few distrubutors and vendors. no outdoor tracks to speak of but I know they are going to be running USVT and USGT in town for the summer. Ran by the same group that runs Midwest Nitro. love it when gassers come to the darkside.
Mine is pretty simple. I used Chris graingers basic setup as the basis for my VTA car. Stock plastic hinge pin blocks. Low height on diff cams front and back. white springs all around. 35w in shocks. full rebound. stock pistons. spool up front obviously. 3 groove camber link mounts front and back. 1.4mm trans link, 4 castor, 2.0mm chassis and top deck, alloy 1 degree rear hub carriers.
Basically, it's a slightly altered version of Chris Graingers 09/13/2009 BRCA Mendip setup.
This setup was the closest I could find to fit my requirements. I wanted to use all Schumacher parts. I looked for asphalt, technical setups and couldn't find one so I deviated from Chris's setup using lessons learned from previous setups on different cars...particularly my Losi XXXS.

I noticed that you had some of the brands broken out to specific models and others you just said "any 1/10 scale 4wd model". Depending on what you're trying to get from these results you may want to expand more, or just condense them all to brand name only choices.

OK, I'm sure that it varies a lot depending on where you go. At our track almost everyone is running some version of a Tamiya Chassis.
