Does it get hotter with very low (3.8:1) FDR?
I'm thinking of a scenario where I run one in my Tamiya Mini with the silver can 540 and eventually a 25.5 or 21.5 brushless. The gearing is basically fixed at 5.8:1 FDR, so I can't get too crazy there. Novak intends these for 380 sized motors, but the small size and efficiency makes it tempting to look for other uses, just as in VTA.
The Mongoose is still in my VTA car and won't be going anywhere. Granted, I haven't tried the GTB2 yet but compared to the Havoc, the Mongoose brakes are outstanding. No heating issues and we race on a 70x40 technical parking lot track. I'm a late braker so the brakes get a workout and no issues at all. Motor temps have rarely been above 115-120 and the ESC was barely warm. Much of that I think is just the hot Florida temps we're seeing.
I'm still running the stock wires but plan to change them for 14 guage. No particular reason other than to customize wire layout. On my chassis I had to lengthen the wires with a splice.
If I had ANY plans to use brushless in our Tamiya Mini class, I wouldn't hesitate to use the Mongoose.
