Default RE: PAGE 577

THE POST BY PEJOTA ON PAGE 577 WAS DEAD ON
WE HAD OUR FIRST BIG PRACTICE GET TOGETHER TODAY.
It was just as in his post ,someone opened up the infield so they could go faster through it .We agree we need to tighten up our layout ( make it more difficult ). because we also run M18's,the faster than VTA tourers should be able to handle it.Got to get our fast class worked out i.e. USGT or 13.5 touring. Most likely it will be 27brushed / 17.5 2s lipo.Myself I really like VTA
Also with a tight infield the VTA cars were Running with the 27 2s lipo cars
Thanks for the advice from all.
I want to go ahead & go 21.5 & 7.4 lipo or maybe 25.5
So what reason did roar give for switching to 25.5 ? to slow them down ?

Whew.... I reread that post several times and was afraid i came across like a jerk. Message boards don't really capture nonverbal communication cues very well.

Anyway, glad that you and your guys agree that things should be a little more technical, especially at VTA speeds or with a smaller track. It will put the fun back in driving and allow newer people to not feel intimidated.

Don't know if you've been to Superior in Orlando, but their track is huge. That being said though, open speedo/17.5 is still too fast for newer guys on a track that large. And i always get a chuckle when someone complains about it being too technical when it has a few 180*s or <gasp> double chicane!?!?!

I'll post a pic or diagram with one of our tracks after this weekend. 25.5 testing continues as well as Vintage Oval testing. Should be some interesting results since my RCGT car has a Tekin RS i'm trying to sort out. I'd bet even money that regardless of track design, the RCGT will only be a second or two faster per lap than my VTA car. Which just goes to show that going slow is all relative to track size and design.

Thumbs up

+1 for you being a jerk !!
Oh yeah....the other stuff was pretty spot on so I guess you'll be in charge of track design tomorrow morning.
Buckshot.....ROAR had nothing to do with the change to 25.5. You can thank the the movers and shakers running USVTA and the folks at Novak for committing to the effort to slow things down and making VTA even more competitive. A gutsy decision that's already showing it's value.

Speaking of tire glue...I'm betting we'll need a lot less of it (yeah!!)!! Won't it be nice to have tires lasting longer again. Not sure if we'll get two seasons like we did with the original spec, but the 5-6 race life on carpet we experienced with the 21.5's should definitely improve.

Like someone who posted earlier, I'm wondering what I'll glue my hands to mid-season if I don't have to glue up tires.

Technical layouts in VTA work well when there are logical places to pass or be passed. Layouts that only have low reward/high risk passing zones can be fun for the more experienced racers, but end up being frustrating for the less experienced racers.

For example, setting up 3 consecutive slow speed 180 turns (with room to race side by side through each) can allow for a better car/driver to setup and complete a pass.

Once you find a good layout for VTA locally, make sure to take a photo and save it!

Any 4wd touring car chassis. If you are getting into it, you must have a club that runs this class, go and ask around there.

Their is no local club that runs it - i have been asking around though and people are showing interest.

Looking for tips on the chassis - last time i ran touring car was in 2002 and it was Nitro. So, curious as to what is the "best" currently.

The "best" is the one you can get that has good local parts support.

I knew that answer was coming. I can get any, and local parts support is not an issue Now what?

I run a TC3, but if I could afford it, I'd get me a new TC5.

You guys prefer the tc3/4/5 over the xray? or is it because of price only?
